Photographer’s Note
Ebla lies 54 Km away from Aleppo, a capital of an ancient kingdom. Ebla the ancient city found at Tell Mardikh is one of the most important archaeological discoveries in Syria. Not much is known about the people of this kingdom, although it is thought that the founders are of Amorite descent. Their language is known as Eblaic, and it was recorded on clay tablets in the Akkadian cuneiform. Ebla flourished greatly between 2400 and 2250 BC, as a trading city with a sophisticated economic and social system. It was destroyed by the Akkadians under Naram Sin in 2250 BC, and in 2000 BC was annexed into the Aleppo kingdom of Yamkhad. In 1600 BC it was conquered and heavily damaged by the Hittites. In 1450 BC it is recorded at Karnak by the Egyptian Pharaoh Thutmose III as a city that the Egyptians went through on their way to the Euphrates. (partly from a Brochure and www.syriagate.com)

Hello Achim,
An interesting composition of these ancient ruins in the desert. I like the way you have framed it with the steps on the right and the angular walls pointing towards us.

Hi Achim,
The subject is well framed. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the ruins of the ancient city of Elba. It is clear and precise. The nice blue sky is sending a light which is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Achim,
Wonderful vetical lines of contrasting red and white colors to these ancient ruins that stand out well against the desert blue sky.
Rich textures to the ancient stone work.

Hello Achim,
Interesting view of the dig-out site!
The harsh sun indicates this is a hot place to work, and that's probably why Indiana Jones and his crew take a long lunch, hehehe...
Effective point of view and fine details, a documentary telling a story!
Greetings,
Pablo -

We don't see many posts from Syria, so this is a very worthy and interesting post. The ruins are unusual and unlike ruins of other places I have seen. The placement of the steps both left and right seem to encircle the centre part ensuring easy viewing.

Hello Achim.
Very interesting your photography on this former city, is impressive to cross these dead places that in another epoch were the capitals of big empires floods of activity and life.
To my this topic I like it. The photo has a good POV, good colors like that as luminosity.
Regards and good weekend.
Luis.

Hello Achim
Interesting view, but I'm unable to guage how the site must have looked like 4000 years ago! Looks like the structures were made of mud. Light was very strong indeed here. Your note taught me something new today (yet again!)
Best Regards

Very interesting and unique shapes, being in such an ancient place really humbles oneself, and this quality shows in your picture :)
