Half a Decade later Photo

Photographer’s Note

Today 29th july is half a decade since I've joined TE... Quite a long time but this last year has been the worst of the 5, many good people gone, questionable attitude from the new owners, all this took away a good part of the fun TE used to be.

So why stay here ? because it's been now an established habit to post @ TE and I do not like flickr anyway where most people have emigrated, this commercial yahoo subsidy is certainly in no way better than IB.

But as you have noticed I have reduced the rythm which allows me to be more active on other places like Facebook, where the spirit of the old TE forums (when King Adam was moderating) has emigrated, many ex TE friends have fun chatting there, will you join us ?

This image shows the Fälensee in the Alpstein range of Appenzell, a stitch of 4.

Kindly dedicated to my "twin" TE sister who loves mountains and also pulled the plug...

Magnificient shot of this well hidden gem only available for those who are willing to suffer the pain of climbing. It's amazing how such a wide stitch works without visible distortion.

Congratulations for the anniversary. I wonder if people leaving is a symptom or a disease in itself. I'll stick here as I'd lose the momentum by splitting the effort. Besides I still learn about the world here.

Salut Jean Yves! Oh ... ein HERRLICHES Bild gefuellt mit Sommer, draussen sein, die Natur geniessen, was mich gleichzeitig rueberfuehrt zu Deinem Thema und dass ich nie und nimmer auf mehreren Seiten aktiv sein werde, weil es eine reine Zeitverschwendung ist ... in meinen Augen. Eben draussen sein, mit Freunden aus "Fleisch und Blut", die da sind, wenn man sie braucht, und nicht vor einem PC hocken, im Halbdunkeln, wenn draussen die Sonne scheint (das mache ich schon genug). Flickr ist grauselig und mein Herz haengt immer noch hier. Was jetzt wieder los ist, wieso eine neue Gruppe rueber wechselt zu diesem Flickr Teil ... keine Ahnung ... Muss mich das interessieren, bin ich weniger gescheit, weil ich hier bin? Danke fuers Aussprechen und die, die meinen, dass ihre Bilder dort sicher sind ... dann haben sie das Internet nicht begriffen (was aber nicht heisst, dass ich gewisse Vorgaenge hier normal finde, bei weitem nicht). Was aergere ich mich ueberhaupt, ich lerne immer noch und habe nette Leute um mich herum ... und es ist Lunch Time und ich gehe essen, mit einer tollen gescheiten Frau (wir essen 1 x pro Woche Hamburger ... don't tell anybody) ... Je pense que tu as bien resumé la situation. Un peu dommage tous ces departs qui ont enlevé une part de l interet d etre sur TE.
Belle image pour feter les 5 ans. J en suis a la moitié et je ne suis pas sur de pouvoir egaler.
En tout cas, tu as une belle serie sur les Appenzell.

This is a fantastic landscape. The angle is great giving the shot a sense of direction. The reflection on the lake creates nice depth and balance for the shot. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and DOF. The deep blue sky provides excellent contrast for the rich green landscape.

a very refreshing post for such a TE 'verteran'(not sure who was first - Pixelterror or TE).
I am not as communicative and socially interessted as you and most of your friends here - just have fun travellingand taking photographs - but I think what you are saying is right and the better way than getting more and more restricteve and commercialized. Wise decision to stay here anyway. Don't leave your heritage to simple minded people who decorate themselves with it and you stand beside having lost influence completely. So - happy anniversary and keep on trekking.

Bon Anniversaire Pixel... et pour la première fois un que l'on ne fêtera pas ensemble ! :o(

Ta note résume parfaitement mon ressenti de ces 12 derniers mois et j'ai donc préféré jeter l'éponge plutôt que de m'obstiner à rechercher sur TE une ambiance qui n'est plus là. Mais, promis, je viendrai de temps en temps guigner les photos des copains et peut être même écrire des commentaires...

En tout cas merci pour cette belle photo de montagne, très rafraichissante par la canicule de ce jour et à très bientôt pour rigoler sur FB et pourquoi pas sur Flickr (si, si, crois moi ça vaut la peine d'essayer...) :o))

Congratulations JY for your 5 years on TE. You were one of the first people to help me when I first joined and for that I thank you. It seems like we have exactly the same reasons for continuing on TE despite everything IB has done to try and destroy the community spirit. (And partly succeeded) Also like Kari says I still learn more here than I would expect from elsewhere. I haven't examined the stats but I'm convinced the traffic is well below what it was.
As for the photo you chose for your anniversary it is strongly JY, stamped right through with your name like a stick of English seaside rock. (Have you tried it? - you eat it ;D)

Deine dargestellten Gedanken kann ich gut nachvollziehen denn die Eigentümer von TE haben wirklich viel mit ihrem arroganten Verhalten kaputt gemacht. Über die anderen Foren denke ich genau sowie Du. Trotzdem sollten wir uns den Spaß nicht verderben lassen und in unserer kleinen Gemeinschaft weitermachen ...
Dein Foto ist auf jeden Fall wieder ein rechter Lichtblick. So viel Schönheit auf einem so kleinen Fleckchen Erde - einfach atemberaubend. Die satten Farben passen hier sehr gut.

un super anniversaire pour ces 5 ans de TE et je comprends ton impression, mais il te faut relativiser car nul n'est parfait en ce bas monde, pour moi le principal c'est la photo bonne ou mauvaise, mauvaise pourquoi?? et bonne de la satisfaction, sortir de la le reste n'a pas tellement d'importance et surtout pas les points (d'ailleur le nouveau site est bien pour ca),les discussions sur le forum j'ai pas trop le temps et d'ailleur sur facebook je suis un peu largué tu m'excusera,
voila c'est dit
pour ta photo j'apprécie toujours ces paysages de montagnes ou la nature a faconné les paysages de la plus belle des façons et tu as su comme d'hab trouver le meilleur cadrage, le meilleur moment et meme si le travail de post a nettement amélioré la photo le coin est vraiment magnifique.
j'espére que cette année tu l'oublieras et que tu vas continuer à nous poster de belles photos comme celle ci

Wherever we go, there are good and not so good thing about the site.
Any way this is a beautiful shot, so much details of such typical Swiss Bliss landscape. the reflection is so well depicted and it seem to blend in with the rest of the landscape. Great high POV and strong and rich colors. thanks Happy Swiss National Day on August 1.

Hi JY, Happy anniversary! Fantastic Alpine view, I would like to go one of this paths. Splendid reflections and intensive colours.
I am much younger, only two years and also I can see that TE is not as it used to be. I still use the beta version but slowly admit that in the new one there are some improvements. The ads are irritating, of course, I do not like to see the fatty stomach before and after or the date of my death:). But it is not the worst. I am so sad that so many active TE-members left with all galleries - last time bibiweb. There are more and more new members, but it is not the same: as Russians say, staryj drugh luchshe novykh dvukh, what means that the old friend is better than two new ones.

La lumière est extra et j'adore la combinaison entre le bleu et le vert, les réflexions...

Superbe ce lac d'altitude. Les reflets verts sont magnifique et donne une excellente profondeur à cette image.
Certes, le site à changé, il est différent avec d'autres membres et d'autres propriétaires. Mais je pense également que c'est à nous de le rendre attractif et de lui rendre sa convivialité par notre participation. Je te remercie et te félicite pour ta longévité et ta participation assidue.
Je dois dire que j'ai de la peine à poster ailleurs, malgré quelques essais, car je trouve que malgré le changement de look, TE reste ce qu'il y de mieux au niveau de la qualité de la présentation et du partage de photographie.
Je ne connais pas exactement les raisons qui ont poussé certains membres à quitter TE mais je n'ai qu'une chose à dire... Ils devraient revenir... ;-)

This shot had the most surprising effect when I viewed it! At first, it resembled a hole; then my perception altered, and I recognised the water with the mirrorlike reflection.

Superb clarity and excellent pov where the eyes naturally follow your designated route.
The polariser makes the sky look incredible.

Many changes have occurred to this site but it is made up of people, and if the people are strong and fair they will affect the atmosphere of the site. I contemplated for several weeks but decided that running away was not an answer. I have begun to enjoy it again!

5 ans c'est à la fois long et finalement si vite passé. C'est beaucoup de photos, beaucoup de commentaires donnés.
Content que tu restes sur TE même si je comprends que ce n'est pas forcément un choix facile. mais comme toi je trouve les autres sites bien moins intéressant. Surpris par contre de ton choix de facebook qui n'hésites pas dit-on à vendre les infos de ses membres. Perso j'ai vu des choses très bizarre sur facebook concernant des amis qui me demandaient de les rejoindre. Du coup j'aime autant m'abstenir!.
Donc je reste TE pour le moment!. ce que j'aimerai c'est qu'un adam remonte un site du type de te!.
Concernant la photo, un cadrage magique et un bleu du ciel éblouissant.

Salut cousin,

Belle facon de souligner tes 5 annees de squat sur ce site. Tu devrais avoir des actions dans l'entreprise, ou au moins un cadre de ta photo dans le lobby du siege social, avec la mention "Employe du mois"... :-P)

En passant, je trouve ta note tres pertinente.

Pour ce qui est de la photo, ben pas la peine d'ecrire ton nom a cote, on connaissait deja l'auteur. Mais bien qu'elle s'inscrive dans la plus pure tradition pixeliste, elle n'en demeure pas moins brillante et percutante. La notion de "lumiere difficile" ne semble jamais te coller au cul... :-P)

Bravo Jean-Yves pour 5 annees de devotion, tout ca pour eviter de sortir les ordures et d'aller te balader au centre d'achat... LOLLL!

Un endroit vraiment spectaculaire et qui , en même temps, dégage une ambiance apaisante. Les couleurs sont riches, la netteté parfaite tout comme le reflet sur l'eau. Une belle réalisation de fusion de quatre photos. Beau travail! Tous mes compliments.
