Photographer’s Note

The picture was taken at Garh Panchakot.It is situated in the district of Purulia, West Bengal.Apparently there was a king who lived here with his 17 queens. He was attacked by the Portuguese and fled leaving his queens to commit suicide in a well in the palace. The fort was subsequently abandoned. The ruins are really ruins and there is no ASI protection or any other such government effort to preserve anything there.

Hi Sanjiban,

You have told us a very interesting story about this place.

Your photo is well conceived, constructed with strong diagonals in the foreground and in the background. The fading of history, being swallowed by nature, is well conveyed.

The colors are nicely rendered in the foreground especially. The sky seems a bit oddly colored, but perhaps that is simply the result of thin clouds.

The photo would benefit from sharpening in post-processing. I've put up a workshop to illustrate.

Great story and equally impressive visual. I really liked the diagonal treatment for the bridge. My only complaint- the DOF disturbs me here. IMO, it would have been better if you focussed on the left side more and let it blur at the right end. Just my way of thinking, nice shot from your side :)
