Photographer’s Note

forse qualcuno ricorda una mia foto scattata nella stazione Oriente di Lisbona,
the joys of reading
questa foto e' stata scattata nella biblioteca centrale di Amsterdam, un edificio nuovo e interamente dedicato alla lettura e al multimediale - 28.000 metri quadri di cultura articolati su diversi piani, con oltre 600 postazioni PC/Mac dotate di accesso ad internet gratis.
e' bello vedere che ogni tanto i soldi dei contribuenti vengono usati per progetti di interesse pubblico e utili alla comunita' =)

some time ago I posted a photo taken in the Oriente station at Lisbon and called the joys of reading
this one was taken in Amsterdam a couple of days ago, inside the new public library - 28.000 sq mt dedicated to books, newspapers, multimedia and over 600 PC/Macs with free internet access.
it's good to know that every now and then the contributors' money are also used for public projects such as these, where something is given back to the community and not only taken from it.

This library looks like one I'd love to visit! I really like the POV - showing the man reading, surrounded by shelves of books. And I like how the elliptical lines of the shelves intersect with the rectangular photo frame.

bella la struttura circolare....ancora di + il tipo alienato nella lettura.
mi ricorda un cogl...zzo a caso che se ne va in piscina e si legge in un fiato un libro intero (il cacciatore di aquiloni) invece di guardare le fanciulle in costume.
magari lo conosci sto tipo....

yes this is great photo, because of its subject of course, I can uderstand so much this, and very soft BW is suitable for this atmosphere of books, well done!

This is a very nice shot. Lovely conposition of white bookshelf that surround the man. The contrast in B&W is cool.

Great shot.
I like the composition with the guy surrounded by books. It works well as a B&W image as I think it emphasizes the patterns of the shelves.

uno scatto dalla grande composizione e molto ben realizzato...bravissima, l'idea poi mi piace molto.
Caspita che numeri che hai inserito nella nota su questa biblioteca...mi ha proprio incuriosito; ad ogni modo lo sai...più noi italiani andiamo verso il nord e più ci meravigliamo dei servizi offerti al sociale ... chissà come mai è!

hello Cristina,
good use of B&W to emphasise both the feeling of cozy and enclosed space the curved shelfs create, and the repetitive patterns of books, they seem to be dancing around the person in the center. I'm a bookworm myself, so it's nice to read about new libraries :)

e come non me la ricordo la foto lisbonese?! bè, Cris, anche questa fa una gran figura. In Italia queste sono scene che non si vedono molto, da noi la fruizione dei libri è abbastanza asettica e non prendiamo molto in considerazione l'ambiente circostante, anche se pure noi abbiamo delle belle biblioteche..certo, le librerie sembrano più centri commerciali che luoghi di relax e svago "silenzioso", ma pensa che proprio ora torno da una libreria qui a PT davvero carina, non bella come questa della tua foto, ma molto silenziosa e con le poltroncine per leggere i libri (non soltanto per comprare, quindi!). Parlando di biblioteche, in nord europa sono proprio spettacolari...guarda qui che idea: leggere circondato dai libri. Spettacolare!

A really great shot once again !
You've done a very effective framing, with a good play of the circular shelves to enclose this lonely reader in his world. Very well seen.
The B&W is a fine choice, and emphasizes the cosy mood. A very elegant composition.

Nice composition with high POV over the circular library and visitor sitting in the middle.
Every single shelf is full of books; looks like heaven for reading-lovers.
The atmosphere, POV, b&w choice, title, clear& blurr parts, figure; it's a very stylish shot..

Hello Cristina,

Looking this photo, for sure you have skills for B&W photo. There are a large grey variation and the contrast is well tuned.
I like a lot the circle composition driving the look to the center where the reader is. Very efficient.
