Golden Misty Minnesota Sunrise
Island Lake
North of Duluth, Minnesota
One of my more beautiful sunrise experiences of this (or any) year. Just me and a fisherman sitting along a bridge over the aptly named "Island Lake" waiting for the sun to rise (which happens a few minutes later in this image) .. Island Lake is one of my favorite places about a half hour north of my home ..
This is a stereotypical scene of Minnesota .. forest, fog, and above all lakes ... when I first moved here in a post I pointed out that common nickname for Minnesota (printed on the car license plates) is the "Land of 10,000 Lakes." Apparently the actual count is 11,842 .. enough for the avid photographer to capture 1 new lake a day for more than 32 years ..and after a year I am way behind schedule ...
Northeaster Minnesota is part of the Laurentian Mixed Forest:
The Laurentian Mixed Forest (LMF) Province traverses northern Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan, southern Ontario, and the less mountainous portions of New England. In Minnesota, the LMF Province covers a little more than 23 million acres (9.3 million ha) of the northeastern part of the state. In Minnesota, the Province is characterized by broad areas of conifer forest, mixed hardwood and conifer forests, and conifer bogs and swamps. The landscape ranges from rugged lake-dotted terrain with thin glacial deposits over bedrock, to hummocky or undulating plains with deep glacial drift, to large, flat, poorly drained peatlands.

Hello John,
Very interesting colours for a sunrise. Where I live they are reddish/purplish. The wide panorama is excellent to show us the peaceful waters of this lake. Good framing along with the warmer tones of the sky...10,000 lakes is a lot more than what we have in Alberta. Thanks John :-)

Hello John,
The scenery in your area looks so serene and inspirational. I like this simple mirror image. You always capture such brilliant colors; the skies in your photos cover so many different moods and hues. I like the hint of fog in this shot, and the calmness of the water.

Hallo John!
One nearly doesn't dare to breath when looking at this wonderful photo - in order to not disturb the atmosphere of this beginning new day. It's like a soulful painting ... a photo to marvel, especially in the large version.
Greetings from summerly Germany - and havea wonderful weekend!

You really are an early bird John! You should set up a personal theme for all your gorgeous misty morning shots.
The colours are wonderful and the mist on the water adds its own atmosphere. There is excellent symmetry thanks to the still water. Is this a stitch or a crop of a single image?

It is sure that one should not regret rising early to see such a gift of nature !!! Superb panorama in broad version. I like always as much this fine fog on the top of the water which creates this atmosphere of softness and mystery. The colors of this sunrise are splendid. Very pretty moment, you live in a very beautiful area, thank you John.
With all my friendships and a very good WE,

its been a couple years since my last visits to minnesota, but i
cannot remember such a wonderful sunrise...or maybe i always just slept
too long.*g* the gold in the sky and reflecting on the water is
great as well as line of fog in the background along with the row of
trees; i haven´t decided yet of there will be a werewolf or
the trumpets of jericho blowing a fanfare through the amazing mysterious
misty atmosphere. well done & best wishes, thor.

Hello John,
wonderful landscape shot with breath taking atmosphere in beautiful golden colors. This idyllic scenary was really worth to get up early in the morning and you have captured it in a very good quality as we can see in the large post. Very well done. I also like the other picture with the rising sun, but this one is my favourite.
Best wishes,

Hello John,
Lovely colours, the grey/white mist seperating the water from the sky makes the difference. Keep working on those lakes:-)
Take care.

Hi john,
The large version really gives the sense of, 'being there' in the early morning gold mist. Early mornings really are the best time for focus and clear thinking.

Hi John,
very well executed panorama. The stitching is perfect, I can't see the junctions. What I like most is the tone you caught from the sky. Not only misty but also peaceful and serene. Thanks for the large version. Lovely one!

Bonjour John,
tout le monde y va un peu avec les levers et les couchers de soleil ces moments-ci. Celui-ci mérite bien la vue LP, avec ses superbes couleurs et ses jeux de brumes légères très séduisants.
La cadrage centré semble bien convenir ici.
Best regards.
Daniel.

Hi John,
The sound of silence... Excellent idea to use a panoramic framing for this very impressive, nature photo. The emptyness here make the picture so interesting. I almost can feel the harmony and the calmness of this place....
Best regards,

What an extraordinarily beautiful panoramic view of the Minnesota Sunrise. The note regarding the number of lakes is interesting; the number should be rounded off to 12,000 on the license plates. But then, Sate Legislatures are rarely mathematicians. In 1940, the highway department engineers had asked for calculators. They tried to impress the legislators with the physics of the banking angle, offering the irrational number pi as 3.141 593. The legislator hearing this argument confessed he did not understand it. But he emerged from a hearing, and pronounced that 'pi would henceforth be 4.
Warm regards,

Hello once again :)
You have captured here a wonderful morning atmosphere. Beautiful colours. I like such moody compositions. Panoramic view is a very good choice. This little mist rising over the lake makes the composition very mysterious. I like the dark line of forest dividing this image into equal parts. Very good work.
