Golden Misty Minnesota Sunrise
Island Lake
North of Duluth, Minnesota

One of my more beautiful sunrise experiences of this (or any) year. Just me and a fisherman sitting along a bridge over the aptly named "Island Lake" waiting for the sun to rise (which happens a few minutes later in this image) .. Island Lake is one of my favorite places about a half hour north of my home ..

This is a stereotypical scene of Minnesota .. forest, fog, and above all lakes ... when I first moved here in a post I pointed out that common nickname for Minnesota (printed on the car license plates) is the "Land of 10,000 Lakes." Apparently the actual count is 11,842 .. enough for the avid photographer to capture 1 new lake a day for more than 32 years ..and after a year I am way behind schedule ...

Northeaster Minnesota is part of the Laurentian Mixed Forest:
The Laurentian Mixed Forest (LMF) Province traverses northern Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan, southern Ontario, and the less mountainous portions of New England. In Minnesota, the LMF Province covers a little more than 23 million acres (9.3 million ha) of the northeastern part of the state. In Minnesota, the Province is characterized by broad areas of conifer forest, mixed hardwood and conifer forests, and conifer bogs and swamps. The landscape ranges from rugged lake-dotted terrain with thin glacial deposits over bedrock, to hummocky or undulating plains with deep glacial drift, to large, flat, poorly drained peatlands.
