A photograph taken in a Sanghyang Jaran dance performance in Denpasar, Bali.

The Sanghyang is the force that enters the bodies of the entranced dancer. There are a number of Sanghyang dances, but the most common are the Sanghyang Dedari and the Sanghyang Jaran. The Sanghyang Dedari is performed by two girls, and is very similar in style to the Legong; the main difference is that the Sanghyang Dedari girls are supposedly untrained and can keep in perfect time with each other, even though their eyes are firmly shut. The accompanying music is provided by a female choir and a male Kecak choir.

In the Sanghyang Jaran, a man dances around and through a fire, riding a coconut palm hobbyhorse. This is frequently called the "Fire Dance", for the sake of tourists. In both dances, a priest is always on hand to help bring the dancers out of their trance-state at the end of the performance.

Great moment .. you choose the right exposure and get the perfect fire colour.
I suggest to crop the empty space in the right side.

c'est un moment vraiment incroyable que tu nous montres là!Je n'ai pas eu le loisir de voir une telle danse lors de mon séjour à Bali,et je le regrette bien!Les couleurs sont splendides,j'adore le feu et les cendres qui s'envolent,la positon des personnages est excellente,et malgré les 3200 iso,la qualité de la photo est parfaite!

Fire is always captivating.

I love the fact you have the dancer in mid air as he reaches the fire. The tail of his horse engulfed in the flames. His face in trance adds to the effect.

Nice to see what the D700 is able to yiels at 3200 iso !! Fire is always fascinating and you've shot this dance at the right instant. Nice little horses

Fantastic! a good moment that the dancer is jumping in the fire has been expertly captured by using an appropriate shutter speed and a high ISO. Really impressive scene!

I wanted to comment on this photo when you posted it, but never got around doing that. better later than never, right? :)
love the shot, your timing was perfect to capture one of the dancers in mid-jump, he seems to be levitating. excellent work, my compliments.
