Giants Causeway Photo

Photographer’s Note

I don't think I need to introduce you to worldwide famous Giants Causeway ! You know what you will see going there, but you really feel shocked when you discover this incredible geological formation for the first time ! According to an irish legend, the causeway was built by an irish giant called Finn MacCool to cross the sea to Scotland and challenge a local giant, Benandonner. When he got in Scotland, he found the giant aslept, but he was a lot bigger than what he thought ! So he fled back to Ireland, pursued by Bendandonner. But Finn's wife had a great idea : she wore her husband like a baby and put him in an infant bed. When Benandonner saw him, he imagined how big the father could be : He fled back to Scotland and destroyed the causeway ! Today you still can see the two ends of the causeway : Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland and Fingal's Cave on Staffa island in Scotland !

The photo was taken at about 8 pm, while the sun was about to set, projecting a very nice light on the causeway.

Bonjour Olivier,
histoire très " Finn" que tu nous narres là .
Photo sous un angle un peu différent de ce que l'on peut voir habituellement sur la chaussée .

Bonjour Olivier ,
La Chaussée est évidemment un sujet de choix . Mais ce qui me plait encore plus ici , ce sont les belles montagnes vertes de l'arrière plan , et le superbe éclairage sous ce ciel menaçant .

Bonjour Olivier,

La lumière est superbe (sans conteste le point fort de la photo), le sujet intéressant et assez bien mis en valeur, mais cependant je trouve qu'il manque d'un point d'accroche au premier plan. Et il y a cette espèce de potelet rayé qui gêne.
Mais dans l'ensemble, l'image fonctionne quand même plutôt bien, accrochant le regard.

I love this kind of light on a scene when there is a dark sky behind like you have here. Well composed image with the mountain off-centred.
I've never been here, but it's on my ever-growing list!

Bonjour Olivier,

C'est vrai que toutes ces colonnes de basalte sont un mystère savamment entretenu... Un lieu étonnant que tu mets bien en valeur ici avec cet éclairage et cette montagne en arrière plan contrastée avec ce ciel chargé. Espace naturel et sauvage que j'aimerai bien découvrir un jour, merci Olivier.

belle vue de cete endroit tout a fait etonnant...

Hi Olivier,
An amazing picture! The wide angle composition including so much of the foreground is great. The weather gave you certainly an additional good element of drama with a heavely loaded sky and fantastic, evening light conditions.
