Photographer’s Note

Kedarnath (3581 mts above MSL) as seen from the way to Gandhi Sarovar. The picture was taken from one of the edges of Chorabari glacier.

This glacier sends out 5 streams of the Mandakini river which joins Alakananda at Rudraprayag which in turns joins Bhagirathi at Deoprayag to become the Ganga.

As this glacier is covered by debris, it is not easy to know that it is a glacier. However a scientist monitoring the retreat of the glacier informed us that this indeed was one of the edges of the glacier, so we accept it.

The picture has been resized from 3000X2008 pixels and therefore the Kedarnath temple itself is not clearly visible in this picture. It is almost at the end of the cluster of buildings seen in the valley, seen as a dark speck.
