Old Ikarian houses are build in stones, including the roof. “You can say this is the second house of the Wolf”, say this kind man I met on the road of Mavrianou, northwest of Ikaria island. “The Wolf” (Ο λύκος, O Lycos in Greek) is his nickname. (See my previous post) This pretty house is surrounded by an orchard with plums, apricots, olives, pomegranates trees...
All this old houses have a stone wall and trees behind to remains hidden from the see and the incursions of the pirates.
The Wolf give me a plastic bag: “A little work,” he told me. I picked this delicious plums (those on the photo…).
Is it true that the Ikarians did not close their door?, I asked him. “I close the door with a key, he answer, but it remains here (he shows me the place) and if somebody come, he can open the door, sit inside and drink some wine. I have good wine here! You want to taste it?”
The Wolf brings me back to my rental scooter. Before he left, he give me a full bag of tasty plums. And I even did not know his name! But I know where is his house and its key and I can make a visit to him another year…

Les vieilles maisons ikariennes sont construites entièrement en pierre, y compris le toit. « On peut dire que c’est la deuxième maison du Loup », me dit cet homme aimable rencontré sur la route de Mavrianou, au nord-ouest de l’île d’Ikaria. « Le Loup » (Ο λύκος, O Lycos in Greek) est son surnom. (Voir la photo précédemment postée)La jolie maison est entourée d’un verger avec des prunes, des abricots, des olives, des grenades, des raisins…
Le Loup me donne un sachet de plastique : « Un petit travail », me dit-il. Je cueille ces délicieuses prunes (celles sur la photo…).
Est-il vrai que les Ikariens ne ferment pas leurs portes ? « Je ferme la porte à clé, me répond-il, mais elle reste ici( il me montre l’endroit) et si quelqu’un vient, il peut ouvrir, s’installer à l’intérieur et boire du vin. J’ai du bon vin ici ! Tu veux goûter ? »
Le Loup me ramène à mon scooter (en attendant le réparateur). Avant de me quitter, il me donne un grand sac de délicieuses prunes. Et je ne connais même pas son nom ! Mais je sais où est sa maison et la clé et je pourrai lui rendre une visite une autre année…
