Saterday afternoon I was in Ghent saw these musician middle on the river give a serenade, alot tourists could enjoy of this lovely weather and the nice music.

I found this article about Ghent.
National Geographic Traveler Magazine is a reference for anyone who enjoys travel, fine photography and insightful journalism. At the end of November 2008, the magazine published a top 109 of the most authentic destinations worldwide. The historic city centre of Ghent ranked third!

What a surprise! Not that Ghent is an authentic, real city filled with excellently preserved buildings, monuments and art treasures, but the real surprise is that the city is recognised for these qualities! And there’s more. Ghent is praised for its “brilliant mix of a wonderful past and a contemporary, vibrant city”.

Ghent can boast the title of highest-ranking city, being preceded only by Austria’s Wachau Valley and the area around the Rideau Canal in Ontario, Canada. In Ghent’s wake are prestigious destinations such as Lyon, York, Dublin, Istanbul, Cape Town, Munich and many others.

Wonderful picture!
In addition to the magnificent architecture of the buildings (superbly captured, with excellent sharpness, exposure, colors and depth of field), the moment with the boats, including that piano in one of them, was a very good one and added lots of beauty to the scene! Pov was quite well chosen and the compositon is great!

On se croirait presque à Venise. Ces bateaux colorés et surtout ce piano sur l'un d'eux donne une image décalée très sympa. L'architecure splendide en arrière plan termine l'image.

Of course I have heard about Ghent, but this view exceeds very much my expectations. You have managed to make this presentation really rich in various architectural elements plus of course the scene which I believed was reserved for Venice only.
The architecture is truly fantastic. It is so unique, I love it, and I have to visit this place in the future.

Excellent John, a wonderful travel image that could compliment that article in Traveler. "The Venice of the north," is one of those cities that Joanne and I have on our list of places to visit. We toyed with it last Autumn when we were in Amsterdam, but felt it deserved a visit rather than a day trip.

Ghent è veramente la "Venezia" d'Europa! E' davvero una bella città sull'acqua, e anche a romanticismo, mi pare, non ha nulla da invidiare! Ci sono stato molti anni fà. Mi piace come hai ripreso la scena, bella la parte in ombra sulla destra, compresa la chiesa sul fondo, dà volume e plasticità all'immaggine.

Ik heb toen ook de hoge rangschikking van Gent op de lijst van National Geographic Traveler Magazine gezien en moet eerlijk bekennen dat dit me toch zeer verbaasde, niet dat ik ook maar ergens afbreuk wil doen aan het aantrekkelijke en mooie van deze stad.
De foto is een prachtige compositie, heeft mooie kleuren en toont naast de fantastische architectuur ook dat de stad leeft !
Ik heb reeds honderden malen deze brug overgestoken en nog nooit bootjes met muzikanten gezien, :(
Misschien omdat ik er nooit op zaterdagnamiddag kom ...

Fabulous shot! Three hundred years ago, large boats carried musicians, and accompanied the Royalty. As you know, Handel's famous 'Water Music' was composed just for such an occasion, as was the 'Royal Fireworks Music.' Il faut être un virtuose du piano pour pouvoir jouer de son art dans une gondole !!! Effectivement si il n'y avait pas cette si belle architecture typique de la région, on se croirait sur les canaux de Venise. J'aime beaucoup la finesse de l'image et cette belle lumière qui met bien en valeur ce spectacle fluvial. Merci John.

For a moment when looking at the thumbnail I thought Venice, but no the boats and architecture are different. A beautiful image with excellent colour & detail. My compliments.

Hello John.
A very beautiful sight of Ghent with S. Nicolas's church and the nice fronts of these medieval houses close to the channel, the effect of the musicians on the gondolas is impressive, good the light and the color, a very nice day!
