Photographer’s Note

Le roseau est utilisé pour la fabrication de toitset aussi a usage isolant, il provient des Marais de Camargue , dans le Sud de la France . Il y est coupé mécaniquement de décembre à mars sur de grandes surfaces entretenues à cet effet . Le delta du Rhône et ses abords constituent la première zone de production française.

Après la coupe, le roseau est nettoyé, calibré en bottes de différentes hauteurs pour répondre aux besoins de la pose, à la main ou mécaniquement.

Les bottes sont rassemblées en ballots de 100 et stockés sous hangars ouverts pour permettre un bon séchage .

The reed is used for making roofs and also use insulating it from the Marais de Camargue in southern France. There is mechanically cut from December to March over large areas maintained for that purpose. The delta of the Rhone and its surroundings are the first French production area.

After cutting, the reed is cleaned, calibrated in bundles of different heights to meet the needs of the installation, by hand or mechanically.

The boots are grouped into bundles of 100 and stored in open sheds for a good drying.

Hello Didier,

Un bel avant plan graphique amène le regard sur l'horizon. Pour moi l'image manque un peu d'un élément attirant le regard. Lorsque les yeux se posent sur l'horizon, ils cherchent quelque chose à contempler.

Bonjour Didier,

Le roseau sert aussi a faire les anches pour certains instruments a vent comme la clarinette et le saxophone.
Bonne idée l utilisation des roseaux en premier plan tout en montrant le paysage de la Camargue. Un point de vue plus en hauteur aurait peut etre permis un meilleur etalement de ce premier plan. Mais juste au cas ou c etait possible.

Wonderful shot of the Camargue landscape, using the reed bundles as a great close-up foreground with strong contrast between light and shadow. This and the few reeds poking above the horizon break the flatness of this area. I like the sky and the ponds of water lying around. The sky looks like more rain is on the way. You have captured the marshy or swampy landscape very well. Thanks for the interesting note.

Also Netherlands have nice reed roof places for the construction.
When I was 14 year learned of a man my make a roof in reed, this during the vacation.

Hello Didier,

It is interesting to see the old roofing techniques still are appreciated!
Reminds me of the sod roofs in Norway, originally used because they were cheap but today maybe the most expensive techniques of all...
The composition has strong leading lines and excellent details!
