Photographer’s Note

On 27 June a LOT Polish Airlines Boeing had to interrupt its flight to New York and turn back to Warsaw airport. Official reports did not mention the real reason - weather abnormalities caused the plane to drop some 3,000 meters and the pilots decided to land and check if everything was fine with the machine...
Today a close friend of mine, a LOT top class pilot, who returned from Brussels today, told me that the plane he was steering all of the sudden slowed down dramatically due to some abnormal weather so that he quickly asked an operator for an alternative "corridor" in the air and hardly managed to speed up the aircraft and re-gain desired speed...

"Strange things happen in the air, these days..." were his words...

I was expecting a lot of irregularities listed in your note, but it was not necessary. What you write is enough.
Many of those problems don't reach top news, but they do exist. I didn't know about that LOT event, like maybe you don't know about a flight this month on the way from Portugal to Cape Verde that had to return back to Lisbon.
And many other cases around the world, fortunatelly without victims.

L'aviation civile est un formidable outil pour aller partout dans le monde. Il faut savoir qu'il existe quasiment 20.000 avions dans l'espace aérien. Les risques d'accident ne peuvent pas être évités ! il faut rendre hommage aux pilotes et aux personnes disparues à la suite d'un accident en vol (les causes sont nombreuses).

Well, I know a very similar case... but, of course, I can see them often.
Good picture and nice tribute to all the people involved in this sad accident.
