Photographer’s Note
This photo is from Muong Khuong market about 70 km south of Lao Cai. Interesting to see that even the young people still wear the traditional dress.
Does anybody know which tribe the girl is from ?

Hi Roland,
The tribe is called Hmong in English. The photo is very well exposed, showing well the bright colours of the clothes and the flesh tones of girls face. Good sharpness of the subject, with the background out of focus so ass not ot detract from the foreground.

Hello Roland,
Yes, this is a Hmong girl, my guess is she belongs to the so-called 'flower Hmong' variety.
A good picture, nice documentary shot on the lovely traditonal dress of Northern Vietnam, but - if you allow me to be a bit critical - there are a few things I'd have loved to see different.
First of all, I think this girl looks very disinterested, or even sad. I'd have loved to see some kind of interaction, some kind of 'rapport' between photographer and subject. Now it is as if she knows you're taking her picture and she doesn't like it, but she's too afraid or too polite maybe to show it. Or - alternatively - that you've just used a telelens to 'catch' her unaware.
On the photography side I also regret that her left eye is cut smack dab in the middle by her headwear. It would have been better either completely in or out of your pov.
I know I'm a bit strict, but I do hope you won't mind.
Thanks for sharing.
Benny

Most have already answered your question here...but again, your photos are really remarkable from this area of Vietnam...just wonderful faces and colors. Perhaps if you continue and even travel to other countries, with the photos you have, I would consider a book eventually.

Hi Roland,
I certainly have no idea of the tribe, but I definitely enjoy this portrait anyway. The girl looks very pretty and the colours of her clothes are very good!
Kind regards
Gunnar

Roland: splendid portrait - and your have a discerning eye, for I think this is not the typical Flower H'Mong. There are elements of several tribes here - but I'm a loss for detail. The Danba Tibetans, Some H'Mong accoutrements - there are many elements here. Great work. c
