Photographer’s Note
Nearly two months in Mumbai, having shifted from Delhi, life for me has become very hectic, both at office & settling down at home. I have not been getting much time for TE, leave alone taking my camera out for photography.
Monsoons have reached Mumbai, albeit around a month late. It drizzles every day, another reason why my camera still continues to rest in the camera bag. But my fingers itch and my eyes twitch to have a look through the viewfinder....but then...:-(
Sitting beside the window of my 17th floor apartment, I think of possible subjects or places in Mumbai for photography…Adjacent to our apartment complex is another towering building being built & work is going on at full pace from 6.30 in the morning to 10 in the night. After sundown, the Thermo Mechanically Treated (TMT) rods illuminated by the Halogen lights, in my eyes look quite beautiful, like giant panpipes (thanks Marine)... I see them everyday, but only yesterday thought I take some pictures of these. Something different & experimental from me I guess and why not? :-). The Workshop is a saturated version of the same shot. Didn't know which to choose for the main post!

Well Angshu,
your good eye didn't let you down on this one. Love the pattern effet of those rods that really stand out against the totally dark background. One thing though...did you use a tripod? Sharpness seems a little off...
Well done anyhow.

Yeah Angshu!
I like it very much!
It's clear, with an interesting composition... They seem to build giant panpipes and the shape of all the structures together, looks like a panpipe itself! Excellent! Could be a symbol of the economical crisis also, with the worker near the abyss. The colors are good and it seems floating in the space... !

Quite mysterious... It took me a short while to understand it, I had to read your note actually, but that's the nice thing about the shot...

Hello Angshu,
Very graphical shot, it was really worth to taka a photo; moreover the worker is perfectly placed in the composition.
I prefer this version to the one in WS. This one is enought saturated, the WS is too much to my taste.
I am impressed by the result regarding this photo was handheld. I am not sure I am able to get this at 1/5sec.
Waiting for your next shots from Mumbai.
Yves.

Dear Angshu,
A few pictures get we to see on TE of people at work.
Very nice composition with the vertical construction of the subject.
The square composition was a good choice to present this subject.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John.

I think I like more the WS because the colours are brighter and more contrasted. But the main thing is the good oblique composition with the thirds well placed. Well done.

There isn't too much differnce between the two saturations, but there seems to be a bit more contrast with the more saturated version in the WS. I like the diagonal of the composition, and somehow all the lighted scaffolding looks like a work of art. It seems like a dangerous job.

hi Angshuman,
I don't see too much difference between this and "saturated" version, but I would prefer a version without the white letter at the bottom, I find them a little distractive. but other than that - great shot, I like a lot the maze of lines and colours, with humans seemingly trying to navigate through. sometime the most mundane places offer the most stunning views :)
best,

fantastic capture of what is almost an art construction in this light.
Great effect,.

Hello Mr. B,
In the manner of stage setting, but 17 floors up. This is a beautifully conceived image, and a perfectly executed one. For someone who has very little time for photography, you still reveal your talent in short bursts.
Warm regards, Angshuman. So it has been two full months already since you made the big move.

Dear Angshuman,
Shifting from Delhi to Mumbai certainly is change of climate, but as my wife always says, Mumbai is the much more friendlier metropolis then Delhi. Indeed, taxis in Mumbai go by meter, what can be a hassle in Delhi. But the climate can be harsh in Mumbai. Be prepared to have problems to fire your flash when the humidity is above 90%. I had the experience ... In this sense your night shot of a construction side is very timely. Everybody goes for building up a new place. The iron give the picture a great DOF, sharpness is fine and colors are vibrant. Well done
Best regards

La beauté est patente. Savoir utiliser notre environnement pour créer des tableaux contemporains.

Hi, my friend Angshuman,
This men working in this night scene has a strong graphical effect, especially due to the light on these rods that give a vertical very interesting geometry to the photo.
The balance between the illuminated elements and the darkness that surrounds them is obtained well, and creates a very efficient contrast in the composition.
It's a very nice work, and without tripod, it is impressive.
Friendly regards,
Josep

Hi Angshuman,
The vertical rods have a graphic effect. The presence of the worker has an effect of scale. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the structure. The hallogen lights have a different effect on the colors of the structure. Have a nice day.

Bonjour Angshu.
Cette photo du travail des hommes est superbe et très originale. J'aime le fait que la nuit isole le sujet pour en faire une véritable sculpture colorée et illuminée.
Bien fait !

not sure the saturation more was nedded; a beautiful shoot that show us this so small man working alone in the night...
are we reaaly at work or is that some theater?... no it's the real and hard life from someone... some thing inhuman but...
and it's nice, hard but nice...

Hi Angshu,
Don't worry about your problem, it is known as "the lack of targets disease" ;))), and it affects to every photographer when weather is awful for more than three days.
Both images, look quite similar so the election had to be difficult, and I have to understand that your special climatology these days doesnt provide you too many "blue-hour" moments...am I wrong?
Warm regards
Felip

Dear Angshu,
this is a very unusual shot which, in my humble opinion, is more emotional than "architectural". Looking at this structure (which in the dark looks very unusual, indeed), we can imagine anything, depending on the extent of our fantasy.
Panpipes? Yes, very much like this :) But maybe much more...
I like this glowing diagonal line.
Your Note is a very good explanation for this shot :)
Best regards,
Elena

A very nice light on these metallic rods, which I thought initially to be a fence or wall of bamboos. It looks like the reinforcing rods of a concrete building after reading your note. However, these flood lights provide beautifull colors, and contribute to ta very original picture.
All the best,
Emmanueel

Bonjour Angshu,
It has been a long time since I did not come to see your gallery, then I have a lot of delay!
I like very much this very strange and very graphic composition (I like particularly the WS).
I like thinking that it is the construction of an immense basket!
Great shot!
Kind regards
Diane
