Ah, le Mistral

Country: France - Region: Cote d’Azur – Municipality: Hyères (L’Almanarre)

The little bay formed by the west coast of the Presqu'il de Giens and the mainland is one of the choosiest wind surf spots of Europe. Because of the form of the bay and of course the Mistral.
The bay is 5 - 10 m deep. At some distance from the beach the bottom rises fast and the incoming surfers have to make a sharp turn and/or brake.....and some perform a spectacular jump in the process of lowering their speed.
Shot from the edge of the boulevard and across the beach, with the lens fully zoomed in (400 mm, 35 mm equivalent).

The PS7 work flow: I altered the saturation, contrast, curves and levels for the whole pic and some elements separately, using different layers, USM-ed, added a frame and resized, merged the layers and did a gentle USM (0,4px,45%) again.

Dag Bert,

Spectaculaire actiefoto. Het voordeel van deze vorm van surfen is dat het kleurige zeil vlak bij de surfer is. In mei heb ik in Ramsgate een hele serie foto’s gemaakt van kite-surfers, maar hun kleurige zeilen hangen hoog boven de acrobatische capriolen van de surfers en zijn moeilijk samen in beeld te brengen.

So energetic, powerful and wind-swept...

I love the action here - if there was picture to make one want to give windsurfing a go this is it... it is phenomenal! But I bet that takes a bit of practice.

Dit zijn van die momenten dat u precies moet op de goedeplaats staan, en terzeldertijd met het foto apparaart in aanslag, dan kijgen we dergelije mooie moment opname.
Hier in Zeeland krijgen we deze sprongen niet te zien.
