Hi friends
My computer is fixed, so I am back now...

Goans (people of Goa) celebrate "São João", an annual rain festival or the Feast of John the Baptist, every year on 24th June.
The festival is part of the tradition the Portuguese, who ruled Goa until 1961, have left behind.
The local men are wearing traditional headgear made up of flowers and leaves, and are going out in processions carrying liquor along with them and jumping into wells, streams and ponds.

Un beau portrait fleuri et souriant. Une grande netteté dans la réalisation. J'ai une petite préférence pour le format vertical.

j'adore ce portrait!La lumière fait ressortir les couleurs d'une formidable façon,révélant les moindres détails de la couronne de fleurs!Je ne saurais dire quel cadrage je préfère,les 2 sont superbes!Ca me donne envie d'être là-bas!

It is a very important date in June in Portugal. We commemorate Saint Anthony on June 13th, Saint John on June 24th and Saint Peter on June 26th. But I did not know that it was also a big day in Goa. It is nice to know that the tradition is alive in that part of the world.
For today’s posting, I really like the vertical format. It would have been my preference for the main posting. The shot is excellent, with great sharpness, good colours and a happy man. Well done.

They are doing a party to Sao Joao like in Portugal, in the Porto city.
The way is different but it's also very beautiful

That's a splendid portrait with a beautiful model and lovely colors. I prefer the vertical version in WS. You said it's the same... well...the smile is the same but the head is slightly leaning and there is more light on the face. I love the crown of flowers on the head... I completely ignored this tradition, so I am very agreeably surprised by your useful note.

It revives my regrets not to be able to visit an area, north of Sanaa, in Yemen, when there are some "men-flowers")

nice the portrait of this native man that celebrates this annual rain festival.I must supposed that is a Christian or no? Excellent your shot that reminds me more a feast of May 1st,that everything else.I like the management of the colours as the shadows on his face of this happy man.Well done.

you know we also have São João Festival here in Brazil? And it happens in June! I guess It's a bit different than that they have there in India but there is a straight relation. Lovely portrait of the happy guy. I like the play between the the highlight and shadow on his face. Very well executed!

Hi Marilyn,
Nice portrait of the man decorated with flowers and green leaves despite a harsh lighting situation. This lighting seems to be good to show the strong sunlight of southern India. It's a pity a little that the double-line blur is seen in the background though it is not seen in the vertical shot.
Thanks for showing me an interesting India that I didn't know.

Tu as eu de la chance d'avoir eu du soleil en cette saison, pour illuminer ce visage dejà radieux par lui même... les couronnes donnent un air vraiment exotique.

Comme une expression allégorique. Ce portrait me fait penser aux allégories dans les tableaux classiques avec ces couronnes de fleurs. Sourire impeccablement saisi. Bel apport de la lumière et des ombres. C'est d'une grande netteté. Un portrait très très maitrisé.

What a bright natural smile showing off his nice set of teeth. I am not sure if it is comfortable to wear those things but looks impressive for a procession on the street. Excellent image with good sharpness and details. I think the vertical format is even better.

I am fine, thanks for asking. Just that I have been busy packing and moving my home and office in Kuching. I am now in Melbourne for the cold winter till 15 July. Hope you are well too. At least you can fix your computer, my laptop was stolen in early April, together with the external backup hard disk and with it most of my photos.

very nice portrair, personage, addornments, natural pose and light are perfect here. It is nice to see that something of Portuguese traditions was saved after Goa being ruled by India again. Anyway this addornments are very different of what is a São João party in Brazil or in Portugal. nice image, congratulations
