Milos sunset Photo

Photographer’s Note

Above Plaka, Milos' capital, on the way to Kastro, the old castle of the island, you can enjoy on of the most spectacular sunsets of the Aegean.

You can also see the remains of the old castle and three beautiful churches. The one to the left, is Panagia Thalassitra (1738) and a bit more to the right is the tiny church of Panagia Eleousa. On the top of the castle you can also visit another church, Mesa Panagia or "Skinitiossa".

In the photo, you can see the entrance of one of the largest natural harbours of the Mediterranean, the Milos Gulf. To the left, you can see the edge of the one "branch" of Milos, the Vani Cape. If you ever reach there (through dificult dirtroads) you 'll see one of the most unexpected greek landscapes, the abandoned iron mines, with incredible red rocks, a "far west" scenery (coming soon in some of my future posts). You can also see the uninhabited island of Antimilos or Erimomilos.

How you avoided producing a silhouette in the magical shot is beyond me. The light management is exquisite. This is one of the best shots of the Aegean I've seen on TE.

Incidentally, will you be anywhere around Santorini on August 12?

Sunsets since Kastro are unforgettable but seen through your eyes and your brushes it becomes a unique moment.
All the magic of the Aegean Sea is there with these islands which appear there where one do not wait for them, these chapels which expose their in front of the light or of the shadows, the sky and the sea which stretch as if they were not sure to want to meet still...
Fortunately, I have my plane ticket for some days this summer, otherwise, it was the guaranteed breakdown!

simply stunning, I was here last week. Didn't realise there was a path further up the hill so took some shots from the square of Panagia Thalassitra.

Did you take a bracketed shot to get this , or any other filters than the circ pol ?

Well done anyhow, its a beautifully composed and controlled image.
