Photographer’s Note
No, it's not a typo, I meant "country" not "county". :)
A late, cloudy evening shot from Kolob road in Utah: one of the most beautiful backroads I know.
I personally much prefer 1200 pixel version of this shot, so I have provided a link to the bigger version for those who are interested. I feel, for a scene like this one, in 800 pixels, too much gets "averaged out".
Have a great weekend, folks!

Wow... impressive rock formation. You must feel very little standing here. The clouds frame it just great giving a goed contrat for the reedish color. I would like to see a bit more of the right side because now the basis of rock is cropd out. But that's a very little detail and the image using the road on a diagonal is wonderful.
Best regadrs

again I have to say that this looks like a stage set, the layers of colours and textures seem too good to be true. love the red rocks against the puffy clouds, the sky feels so hight and so low at the same time, it creates an almost schizophrenic feeling of wast and confined space. the road is a nice lead-in line, the shot DOES give justice to the place.
hugs from Mexico,
K.

Hello Kristaps,
I never stop being amazed by the rock formations in these parts of the world!
And they make such great photo subject, the result will have a built-in appeal hehehe...
here I see a classical composition with great colour reproduction, good use of the light situation!
Greetings,

Dramatic scene depicted in a picture postcard. BuT I like it!
The light on the rocks is beautiful. So as categorie you could have chosen "decisive moment", but "Nature" of course fits this one as well.
TFS!

Hi, Kristaps -
Absolutely the 1220 px version is better! Still, as long as we're here on TE, we have to take what we get.
Very good handling of a complex light situation here. I like the way you've positioned the road as well, both the main road whose curve leads the eye into the center, and the side road which acts as a frame.
Best,
Dan
PS: See you in SF.

Hello Kristaps,
The mesa shines out in a spot of sunlight and becomes the star of the view. Photo taken at a very good moment. A fine contrast with the heavy sky too.

Yes ... back! It went ways too fast, had a wonderful time. Especially the house sitting part was a life-time experience, I am forever grateful for this opportunity. This picture, mesa country, seems familiar to me these days :))) And the clouds, we were missing the blue many times but so what, when it rained it rained for some minutes but the clouds stayed. You worked well with the orange in the rocks, I sometimes find this not easy and it looks strange but you did really good. Very nice the light on the rocks. In the end we did a lot of backroads too, with our city car :))) I know it is not allowed but so what. Have a nice day ... Barbara.

Hi Kristaps,
you know I was "googling" this part of the world last night. I was amazed by the mountains formation and had a great idea of that by the 3D feature of Google Earth. Composition is well thought. The road in diagonal is suggestive and it leads us through the image. You also placed the horizon line right in the frame, balancing the two vertical parts and creating a nice contrast between them. Finally the exposure which is quite convincing in a way to make us believe that's exactly like you saw at the moment. Well done!

Carlos

Kristaps,
Yes the 1200 is just wonderful, give better impression and perspective. I love this, the rocks looks so much a gigantic castle or cathedral and the road leading to it. so much details, even with the light missing in the foreground, but the rock are definately well lit and the clouds are just fantastic in this case, sometimes they over shadowed your landscape but here they enhanced it and give it much interesting composition. a little more cloud you would be completely in the shade. Congrats.

This is the preview, the big one is the real McCoy. I love that big version! Beautifully done. As Ansel Adams say, "You do not take pictures, you make them".
I was in Kolob too three weeks ago. My pictures lie unprocessed. I will see if I had on that can come close.
