The story of our Holeymoon...

Arrived in Montreal the day after we have left to Quebec city, really a fantastic town.

*** Quebec is the oldest existing European settlement in Canada.
It was founded in 1608 from exploration French Samuel de Champlain in the first place if there was an indigenous settlement called Stadacona.
After it was briefly conquered by the British (1629-1632), Québec became the gateway to the colony of New France and more generally throughout the Great Lakes.
In the middle of the eighteenth century the French came into conflict with British settlers allocated on the east coast of the United States today, giving rise to the French-Indian War, which ended just in Québec, when the last French garrison was defeated by the British in the Battle of the plain of Abraham, 13 September 1759.
During the American Revolution Québec was again attacked, this time by the revolutionaries and their defeat (1775) marked the end of U.S. hopes that Canada would join the rebellion against English domination.
Between 1859 and 1865 Quebec was the capital of Canada, before the final transfer of the government in Ottawa.
During World War II Quebec was home to two important meetings between Churchill, Roosevelt and emissaries of other governments.
In 2002 the boundaries of the city of Quebec were greatly expanded to include 12 other municipalities that previously existed. ***

Arrivati a Montreal siamo partiti il giorno dopo per Quebec city, una bellissima città.

*** Québec è il più antico insediamento europeo esistente in Canada.
Essa fu fondata nel 1608 dall'esploratore francese Samuel de Champlain nel luogo ove prima sorgeva un insediamento indigeno chiamato Stadacona.
Dopo essere stata brevemente conquistata dagli inglesi (1629-1632), Québec diventò la porta di accesso alla colonia della Nuova Francia e più in generale a tutta la regione dei Grandi Laghi.
A metà del XVIII secolo i francesi entrarono in conflitto con i coloni inglesi stanziati sulla costa orientale degli attuali Stati Uniti, dando luogo alla Guerra franco-indiana, che si concluse proprio a Québec, quando l'ultima guarnigione francese fu sconfitta dagli inglesi nella Battaglia della piana di Abraham del 13 settembre 1759.
Durante la rivoluzione americana Québec fu nuovamente attaccata, questa volta dai rivoluzionari; la loro sconfitta (1775) segnò la fine delle speranze americane che anche il Canada potesse unirsi alla ribellione contro il dominio inglese.
Fra il 1859 ed il 1865 Québec fu capitale del Canada, prima del trasferimento definitivo del governo ad Ottawa.
Durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale Québec fu sede di due importanti incontri fra Churchill, Roosevelt ed emissari di altri governi.
Nel 2002 i confini della città di Québec furono notevolmente ampliati, includendo altre 12 municipalità precedentemente esistenti. ***
