Photographer’s Note
The departure from Newcatsle habour of the mighty Russian four-masted bark Sedov, who was for a long time the largest tall ship in the world, with her length of 117 meters. Three views from Statsraad Lehmkuhl.
Scanned film, post-processing PS Elements 6.0
For information, I have returned home on Monday, after my Atlantic crossing between Canaries isalnds and Bermuda, from May 17 till June 9 during the second race of the Tall Ships' Atlantic Challenge 2009, with the Dutch ship Tecla. Tecla managed a second place in A/B classes behind Jolie Brise and the communication assistance price. It represents 2,800 nm on my logbook, 23 days at sea (plenty of sun, but not enough wind...), more than 1,200 pics. But the most important was the people, on board and in Bermuda... My mind is still on the ship while they are now racing toward Charleston!

Dag Emmanuel,
So you are ashore again and you probably will please us with a new actual series of nautical photography, although this one is already 16 years old (good scanning work).
I suppose your pictures of the last trip must still be developed. :- )

Hello Emmanuel,
This is not an action shot like many of your sailing scenes, but it does present the Sedov in its full majesty. I remember seeing it about eight years ago in Bergen where the tall ships were about to embark on their race. The overcast skies have enable you to produce the shot with subdued light and colors, instead of the stark contrasts in light and shadow.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Nice to have you back on “terra firma” to be able to admire your beautiful ships and sails. Hope you are going to delight us with a bunch of new fresh pictures.
In the meantime, this one is also very nice. Well done.

Hi Emmanuel,
Good to see you again! I hope you've had a great time! Very good presentation of this well-known and impressive ship in the harbour of Newcastle. A fine light too here. Thanks for sharing!

Bonsoir Emmanuel,
Roger

I am a fan of this kind of sailingships. I know how hard it is to get a picture like that. The Sedov.

Bonjour Emmanuel,
welcome back after the race! you managed to go by the "Bermuda triangle"??
I like the composition of this shot: you even managed to include a smaller boat behind the Sedov, for a good balance. And you captured the atmosphere very well! I can almost smell the sea air and hear the sounds...
Very impressive proud-looking ship.
I wonder... these "metallic" colours come from the cloudy day, I suppose!
Very best greetings from dry dusty Moscow,
Elena
