Waiting or Dreaming? Photo

Photographer’s Note

Harbour View is a Kingston community overlooking the entrance to the Palisadoes. I wondered what these twin sisters were thinking about as they gazed out over the harbour and the airport.

You'll notice lots of power lines across the picture -- something it's almost impossible to avoid in Jamaican cities and towns. I did a little cropping and cloning to clean up the lines and the old poster on the pole -- I show it as a WS. In the end I decided I preferred the original "natural" version. I wonder what you think.

Hi Mary. very sweet and thought provoking image of these little twins. I suppose that they exude a certain restlessness that has made millions of young people leave their towns and families and seek adventure and a dream elsewhere, sometimes at the opposite side of the orb.These two are still young, but even then the images of the better off places begin to infiltrate one's mind- I know that from personal experience. A sad image in a way, sad for Jamaica and all those place which are hemorrhaging as their young go elsewhere(if they can). regards. Klaudio.

the WS looks nice but a photo have to show the reality,

Hello Mary:

Thanks for visiting my gallery and let me know yours, and as you say in your presentation, images are routine, perhaps because of your work, which is commendable.

This image can say that there is much light, which does not help much, but I consider the limitations of your camera and maybe half hour of the day, which are not fortunate hours for photography.

But her rescue, the original composition, with its depth of field. Girls determining a balance in the frame and the colors are well established.

Most certainly the right decision.. a telegraph pole without a dancehall soundsystem poster on it for a Saturday dance? Well that's just not Jamaica!

Living here up on the hill of course these kids wonder where those boats come from and go to and no doubt dream about what lies on the other side of the ocean. But then people come and go, and far too often those that get to go a 'farin' find out it isn't always that friendly amazing opportunistic place that their night time dreams and daily thoughts led them to believe. As any Jamaican overseas will tell you, there is nowhere better than back a yard.

Yet this is a nice shot again, Mary, conjuring up the imagination and intrigue of these two twins. All those lines; links which provide the possibility of a plug-in into the information superhighway. A virtual world to escape to... that is after the cost of a computer, phone line and an infochan connection.

Molto carine queste due gemelline, appoggiate ad un palo di cemento in attesa di qualcosa! Mi piacciono anche perchè la foto esprime bene una sensazione di vuoto intorno a loro, sembrano di stare in un paesaggio che non gli appartiene!

Bonjour Mary,
I like this image! certainly not, you should not remove electric cords. We are not in the universe disinfected by our Europe. The idea of your photo, it is because, maybe, these two sisters dream about a departure towards other countries, all which is a part of their universe thus has to be on the photo.
I like the idea, but especially I like this centring, this casual twinning on both sides of an electric pole in cement...
It is a fantastic scene. I would have liked seeing it and I thank you for having seen it for me!
Excuse me! I am not sure, with my bad English, to have managed to express what I felt with this photo.

Nice twins picture, even if they are seen from the back. Power lines are disturbing for the picture, but not for the comment, and it's real life we have to discover.
