Peachtree Eiland Photo

Photographer’s Note

A little bit south of Sines you find this impressive coastline with the black volcanic rocks and the rough sea. Here we spot this eiland with a fortress on it and at the beach (left side) another fortress.
After looking for information we learnd that this is the Peachtree eiland. the 2 fortresses were build against the pirates. De one on the eiland is calld "Forte de Santo Alberto", en the other on the beach "Forte de Nossa Senhora da Queimada"
The building was started at 1588 and only finished at 1690. The fortress are listed as national monuments but they are completly abandoned. What a pitty.

they are completely abandoned, that is Portugal for you. We have beautiful things but we do not care!!!
It is a nice shot where the strong colours make an impact. Pity the referred forts are not better shown.

Hi KIKs. I’m sure eventually something will be done to restore these sometime, hopefully before they completely rot away. Nice photo. Good use of FG to add depth. Good clarity and colours also. Thanks for sharing.

What a pitty indeed (they are completly abandoned). What a pity that Nederland doesn't rule here. We pay European Union prices and taxes, but we have Third World rulers.
Anyway, you captured here a nice panorama. I like the foreground included.
