Photographer’s Note

The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village (Ukrainian: Село спадщини української культури, Selo spadshchyny ukrayins’koyi kul’tury) is an open-air museum that uses costumed historical interpreters to recreate pioneer settlements in east central Alberta, Canada. In particular it shows the lives of Ukrainian Canadian settlers from the years 1899 to 1938. Buildings from the surrounding communities have been moved to the historic site and restored to various years within the first part of the twentieth century.

"The Village", as it is colloquially known, makes very strong commitment to historical authenticity and the concept of living history. The Village uses a technique known as first-person interpretation which requires that the costumed performers remain in character at all times (or as much as is feasibly possible). Actors answer all questions as if they believe it is 1928 or whatever year their building portrays. Although this technique is off-putting for some visitors at first, it allows for a much stronger experience of immersion in history than traditional third-person interpretation where the actor acknowledges that he is, in fact, in a museum.

Quite interesting photography. Everything is runing well in the composition but the dome is the highlight.

The building to the right looks not really European, but otherwise this could have been taken somewhere much more eastern than it obviously is. There is a very timeless feeling here and a very attractive picture!

Technically great but more important culturally rich.
Love how the lovely yellow onion domed church blends so wonderfully with the blue sky.
The old horse drawn wagon makes the ideal lead in to this beautiful shot.

I even prefer this one here. Besides the wooden houses and the church in background, we have the old cart in foreground. It takes us back in time. It reminds me of that famous movie, "The witness". Good work!

This picture is so captivating, so interesting and, yes, quite beautiful, a real pleasure to my eyes!
Sharpness is excellent, exposure is perfect, the pov was very well chsoen and the composition was skillfully done! Colors are naturally beautiful and have the best level of saturation! In addition to all the important elements in this image: church, horses... the sky is a real highlight!
I just love it!

Karen, missed this along the way somehow, and it is a really fine one. Looks more like Russia than Canada I think anyway the colors and details are awesome. Great work.
