Photographer’s Note
I do most of my uploading at home on my laptop & several regular critiquers always comment that the exposure level & brightness are too high. So the past 2 days, I've gone with a darker' more contrasted image. If I view the images at my work computer' they now appear too dark, & Ive gotten several critiques also stating that darkness & contrast are now too high. I've cut back a little on the darkening & contrast today. So I'd appreciate it if the brightness & contrast now appear about right?
This is Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies. It started snowing by the time I'd walked down to the cabin. Fortunately, the weather was glorious blue skies, the following day, when I hiked up to Mirror Lake & Lake Agnes.

Hi Chris, it looks perfect on my computer screen :o) It's a wonderful image which is expertly composed and presented. The rocks and path lead you to the cabin which is complemented by the dramatic background.

Hello Chris,
The curving shoreline makes a good lead line drawing the eyes towards the cabin and the wonderful mountain backdrop. I have to say that I find the contrast a little overdone and the image slightly on the dark side compared to your usual postings. The problem is that different screens are calibrated in different ways according the individual's personal taste. So the problems may be down to my equipment and not yours ;-) There is also the question of personal taste to take into account. You can't win really!

Hi Chris,
What a cosy and romantic place. The composition of the photo is splendid, the perspective of the picture leads our look to the building. The environment is amazing. Tfs! Have a nice day!

I like this "very green" shot, Chris, and this POV to catch the curve that leads to the cabin... A shot that makes me wish to be there... Regards, Daniel

Hi Chris,
I think you are still waiting for an answer:)
I had a look at your image on two new LCD monitors calibrated with the Spyder Pro.
The image looks identical on both so it`s not a matter of personal taste. As Stephen mentioned, the photo is a bit on the dark side (dry figures:73% of the photo is below 50% grey)
I uploaded a workshop for you to make my point.
My advice: DON`T USE A LAPTOP SCREEN FOR PROCESSING WORK.At least try to connect your laptop to a real monitor and calibrate that monitor using some kind of hardware tool, like Spyder Pro.
Thanks,
Nelu

I know my computer at work is SO DARK, completely different viewing pictures on. I seldom comment on that area as I realize everyones computer is different. I love this emerald water and the beauty of nature. A great place for a cabin!! Good detail and colors. TFS

Bonjour, cher ami Chris,
Comment ne pas tomber amoureux d'un tel paysage et devant l'immensité de l'environnement.
L'homme doit se sentir tout petit à côté de ces grands espaces d'une exceptionnelle beauté.

Hello Chris,
They are most impressive those mountains surrounding Lake Louise!
The colour of the glacier water is very attractive, and complements the evergreens nicely...
Well composed with a good lead-in by the wooden walkway!

HI Chris
It's not only about your computer, if viewing people use notebooks they will also have a distorted view of your photo because notebook displays are too bright by default and most people don't know how to tune them down. This one shows a nice perspective and looks right on my screen, in any case it's adviseable NOT to do PP on a notebook and if you have to, then always check the levels.
Have a nice day JY

Hi Chris,
Wow this is a real beauty. I can almost smell the freshness of the cold crisp air! You've handled the contrasts extremely well, caught the transparency of the lake and managed to keep the snow a true white. Could easily trade places with where I am now :-)

Hi Chris,
Beautiful compo, that makes a clever use of the stunning beauty of the place, its colours and its picturesque shapes and textures. We are invited to stroll on the border of that lake, whose green matches the trees.

José

Hola Chris.
Your PP work now is better and if you get your picture brighter the snow cover mountain will be burned. I don't know if you use photoshop to do your PP, this is what I have in my computer at home and laptop and while you can dark some areas of your photo you can brighter others. Per instance the area of the pine trees are a little bit dark but the mountain is bright, if you try to get your photo brighter the area of the mountain is going to be too white.
TFS.
Greetings

Hi Chris,
The curves of the lake and of the path are assets to the composition. The forest is a natural frame to the lake. The point of view leads our eyes toward the mountain which is giving depth to the photo. The quality of the light has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.
