Photographer’s Note

In Orléans, to the east of the Place du Martroi is the massive Cathedral of Ste-Croix, on the site of an earlier 10th C. church, part of the foundations of which have been preserved. The building of the cathedral began in 1278 but was several times interrupted and continued into the 16th C. It was badly damaged during the 16th C. wars of religion but was rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries on the model of earlier Gothic churches. The west front, flanked by twin towers, has five doorways and much Baroque decoration. The towers themselves are over 81 m/266ft high and are the work of the architect Trouard, although the original plans were drawn up by J. Gabriel. The central spire is 114 m/374ft high and was built in 1858 ..

Hello Phillipe!

There is something strange here. I'm not talking about the photo itself, which has great colours and sharpness, but about the building. This miniature look almost genuine. If it wasn't for the pretty artificial looking people on the ground, I would have thought this is the original (ok, the fact that it's in the middle of the field doesn't really help, but after all...)

Really like this little "joke". I'm curious how many will actually think this is the actual biulding :p

C'est en me penchant que j'ai remarqué la supercherie.
Le lieu de la prise de vue confirme le tout.
Cette miniature est d'un réalisme incroyable. Les petits personnages lui donne encore plus de vie.

When this came up on my screen, I thought it must be a model -- it didn't seem real. What an extraordinary mix of styles, explained by your excellent note. The top two "wedding cake" tiers are particularly unusual. Beautifully shot, as always, with the surrounding green, the foreground figures and a great sky.

The image is excellently composed with an outstanding POV. Very pleasant colors and a nice perspective of this majestic church. And as usual a fantastic light. But most of all I like the small dummies around the church. TFS!

Une très belle présentation de cet élément majuer du patrimoine avec un point de vue bien choisi et une belle insertion dans un cadre de verdure. L'échelle est incroyable et les quelques touristes devant la cathédrale nous permettent de nous en rendre compte.

Très belle prise de vue de cette magnifique cathédrale , dont je ne réalisais pas la localisation dans toute cette verdure! On est souvent empêché de prendre ces beaux édifices d'un point de vue convenable à cause de toutes les constructions autour!
Tu as certainement joui d'une place d'honneur pour cette capture exceptionnelle!

PS. Je suis quand même allée voir sur Google Earth, car cette cathédrale me semble construite au milieu d'un parc, ce qui n'arrive presque jamais! Et effectivement, la vraie cathédrale jouit d'un entourage assez important de verdure, mais pas comme sur la photo!
Bien sûr, maintenant seulement, je lis la localisation: Elancourt! Il s'agit donc d'une reproduction en miniature. Il n'en reste pas moins que c'est très beau et que la prise de vue est réussie!

Cela fait 17 ans que je suis dans les Yvelines et je ne suis jamais allé à France miniature... Je vais certainement y remédier, et avec le temps superbe que tu as eu, c'est un bien joli but de promenade vu l'environnement. Très belle photo de la cathédrale avec un angle de vue et une lumière qui donne un très joli relief à l'architecture. J'apprécie beaucoup la netteté de l'image. Merci Philippe.

Nice try but this is a miniature model of the real cathedral located in the middle of the city of Orleans. When I saw the picture something wasn't right, your extremely high POV, a cathedral so clean and built in the 16th C.?
But anyway your shot is very good with nice colors and great sharpness.

une des plus jolies cathédrales de France, mais quelle est la cathédrale qui n'est pas superbe ? Cela existe-t-il ?

Des lumières parfaites assoties d'une mise au point presque trop précise, ajoutons à cela le POV en hauteur qui dégage le paysage derrière elle, c'est une magnifique prise de vue.

Pour moi, Orléans était un endroit qu'il fallait éviter absolument faute de se voir prendre dans des bouchons à répétition... Sur l'autoroute....
Je vois ici l'étendue de mon immense ignorance... Il y a ici une des plus belles cathédrales de France! J'admire la finesse du haut des tours; c'est tout simplement merveilleux!

Ce style flamboyant tardif doit être rare en France. Tu as réalisé là une très belle photo avec presque une vue aérienne. La lumière met en valeur les couleurs et les volume de façon très agréable.

Très jolie vue plongeante. Cela donne presque l'impression que c'est une miniature! Magnifique cadrage dans cet écrin de verdure. d'une grande netteté avec cependant une belle profondeur. Ici la présence des gens est très importante pour confirmer l'échelle. Je salue la performance sur l'exposition: une image contrastée mais les zones d'ombres sont parfaitement équilibrées.
