Photographer’s Note

I saw this seagull on guard at the slide on Lake Tikitapu, aka The Blue Lake, in Rotorua, New Zealand. On fine sunny days the lake water is very blue. Unfortunately that day the sky was grey.

The story surrounding the Blue Lake is a simple one. The daughter of a high born chief was bathing in its crystal waters and wore the Tikitapu - (sacred greenstone neck heirloom ornament.) The piece was held about her neck by a tightly woven flax cord, but managed to dislodge itself while she swam. A frenzied search followed as slaves and family searched for the sacred tiki of her tribe. Alas it wasn't to be found. The blue waters of Tikitapu still hide the Tikitapu that was lost so long ago.

Janice, I like the photo here. A neat concept and a well captured moment. The sharpmess is very good. I just wonder if some leveling is necessary to bring out some more vibrant colours?

Le tobbogan est bien placé sur un point fort de l'image qui est bien cadrée.

The tobbogan is well positioned on a strong point of the picture which is well tallied. I like very much the reflections on the lake. Thank you for your share.

This is a very good composition and a strange sight... The slide, the sign and the bird, you had to take a picture and you took it well. The reflections are nice and the picture is well composed.
I like the WS that brings out better colors, but I understand you were limited by the weather this day. Well done!

Hi Janice. Very nice! Simple yet effective. The reflection of the slide is what caught my eye in the thumbnail photo. Honestly, I didn't see the seagull standing guard until I read your note, which is very informative. I like the natural colours in the photo. Compared to the workshop, I think mpcorbett put a different, but brighter perspective on things. Great composition. Thanks.
