Photographer’s Note
The Lakshman Jhula, as we see it today, was constructed in 1939. The bridge on the holy waters of the Ganges is 450 ft long.
Legend has it that Lakshman, the brother of Lord Rama, crossed the river on a jute rope at this particular spot. The Lakshman Jhula offers a marvelous view of the entire landscape around.
A very good view of the bridge can be enjoyed from a boat ride on the river, while feeding the fish, of which there are plenty in the Ganges. Another suspended bridge named Ram Jhula, after Lakshman’s elder brother, has been recently constructed over the ganges.
