Archangel Michael Photo

Photographer’s Note

A fresh picture of the archangel St. Michael slaying the dragon on one of the towers of the Basilica of Fourvière in Lyon. It symbolizes the victory of good over evil, represented by the dragon. Saint Michael is also the leader of the angelic militia, hence his title of archangel.
It is placed on the dome of the choir of the basilica.

I had climbed up the hill to take some pictures of the city when I realized that the moon was in the axis of the statue ... then voila!

c'est bien joué la fait d'avoir pu inclure la lune dans cette compo. J'aime bien la lumière sur Saint-Michel. Une belle composition. Bravo.

La statue est très bien mise en valeur devant ce ciel bien bleu et uni. J'aime les effets d'ombre et de lumière dessus qui donnent un bon relief. C'est bien net et la composition verticale fonctionne bien.

Un tres bel ensemble qui profite a la fois d un bel eclairage mais surtout de la presence de la Lune. Ca fonctionnne tres bien.

Hi Philippe,

Not easy to make something extra out from a statue but here with your low pov and most of all the light and colour setting is what i like to see here. Sunlight what strikes the back gives a great contrast to the image and with a nice touch the half moon above...

J'aime beaucoup. C'est délicat, et très esthétique.
Le cadrage pour isoler la statue est très bien étudié, lui donnant de la force et la lumière est toute en subtilité. Les rayons sur les ailes sont quasi mystiques ;o)
C'était déjà excellent sans la présence de la lune, alors là du coup, ça prend une autre dimension.

Salut Philippe,
Une statue, cela se regarde en tournant autour pour voir le jeu des ombres qui apportent un relief supplémentaire. C'est ce que tu as fait et avec quelle manière! Tu as vraiment su profiter (et nous faire profiter) de la lumière.
La lune est un petit plus mais même sans elle, il fallait la publier celle-ci!

Not only the position of the moon, but also the delicious light which falls on the statue! Fine contrast against the clear blue sky. Love the play of light & shadow on the statue. Fine work here!
