Photographer’s Note

The Castello Maniace is the fortress at the tip of Ortygia, the island-center of the city of Siracusa, Sicily. Normally, this area is closed for visitors, due to military activities that are located here. On this special day however, the whole fortress was open for the public. A pleasant result of the G-8 meetings that were held inside the fortress shortly before. Also the inhabitants of Siracusa were eager to visit the inside of the Castello on this May 1st, Workers Day. On the image the firehouse is visible, together with one of the small courtyards of the Castello.
