Paulista impression

Shot on Avenida Paulista, the economic centre of Sampa. Although some say that the new economic heart is in the Pinheiros district now.

Maybe more a study of atmosphere and tones then anything else. Working on this one I remembered the feelings I had while walking the Paulista streets – mostly in sync and open to the intense multisensory flow of stimuli and be able to place them. And being thrilled by them. But sometimes also feeling vaguely disconnected, somehow lost and light as if coming from another planet. Something of this feeling is in this capture.

Due to holiday and travel I won’t be posting for a while.

The PCS4 work flow: I altered the saturation, contrast, curves and levels for the whole pic and some elements separately, using different layers, thot that it would gain in b/w so converted by using gradient mapping, USM-ed, added a frame and resized and enhanced the edges and did a gentle USM (0,3px, 78%) again on a 75 % transparent layer.

Hi Bert,

A very impressive documentary photo. The fact that the people in the foreground are blurred enhances the feeling that people here are always busy and in a hurry. The B& W is perfect here. TFS and have a nice Sunday!

BNW always gives birth to stronger geometry and depth in the composition..and when its set against a street scene..it only adds to the appeal..good work Bert..

Wish i could see more of the buildings..they seem to create an uncharacteristic point of interest

Hoi Bert,

Ik zie hier een beetje een ommezwaai in uw werk, eerst zwart-wit, ten tweede de expressionisties voor komen van dit beeld.
De focus ligt op de gebouwen wat vermoedelijk wel de bedoeling was. Iets anders maar moet kzeker kunnen op TE.
Goed gedaan, bedankt.

very nice this present scene in B/W with the atmosphere and tones of the moment.I like that some of the passing by people are blur,this make the scene to have motion.Well done.

A good rendering of the "urban street feel" in this one, Bert. Nice circumstantial framing with the passersby in front, which are just subtly blurred due to the choice of 1/50 speed. The contrasty b&w presentation is aptly selected here. Fine notes, as usual.

nice photo of São Paulo downtown. The blur on people giving moviment represent very well the stressed life of great city of Brazil.

Hey Bert,
Erg mooie impressie van het stadsleven hier, de blur van de voorbijgangers geeft aan dat dit een druk economisch centrum is. Het zwartwit werkt ook goed doordat de silhouetten mooi tegen de iets lichtere achtergrond afsteken. Mooi fotowerk!
