Photographer’s Note
Good Morning Everyone,
Today, I have returned to my local village to share with you some of the interesting buildings.
These old cottages have a wonderful 'yesteryear' charm. The random stone walls, stone slab roofs and tiny windows give the houses character.
Although the houses look as if they have been unchanged for centuries, inside they have been modernised to fit in with modern living.
Interesting old houses are 'listed' which means they cannot be altered externally without special permission. In this way, such buildings are preserved for the enjoyment of later generations.
Many thanks for your interest.
I hope you enjoyed the shot.
Please feel free to offer feeddback on any aspect of the photograph. Bev :-)

Hello Beverley,
This is the type of architecture I wish we have more of in my place. Unfortunately everything is newer here. This is an excellent composition. The light and colours stand out very well. Your angle is also effective to show us depth. Nice work. Thanks Beverley :-)

Hello Bev,
You benefited from a very nice light to capture these lovely old cottages. The tones and detail in the old stones are very well rendered. The topping and tailing from sky and grass make for some interesting toanl contrasts.

Hi Bev,
Very fine colours here and a very attractive view. These houses look very typically British to me (just as red wooden houses in Sweden). Together with your note this is really a fine TE contribution!
Kind regards

hi Bev
Never judge a character from appearance?
I am sure the house can be a luxury home. The external look is wonderful, with the block stones and pleasant earth color tone. Very nice setting of garden green with blue sky in this capture. Good presentation of depth at f/16
Nice work.

Good morning, Beverley!
This one simply is beautiful! These houses seem to be built for eternity. The give the impression of solidity and reliability. A somehow cosy place, caught in a very favourable light.
Greetings from sunny and warm Westphlia!

Nice one Bev, the colors are wonderfully rich and saturated and the detail in the stone work stands right out because of the crisp focus and f-stop.

Hi Beverley
Good textural detail on the stone walls of the old house, with excellent sharpness, & a marvellous blue sky. I like the horizontal layering into approximate thirds. Tfs!

Hi Bev
Do I like those oldies that keep the chararcter of the countryside unchanged. My weekend house is also a circa 1870 one fully redocated but keeping the beauty of the traditional architecture. It's funny because we also use schistolithic slabs for the roofs the difference being that they are grey. Nice capture indeed and thanks for sharing
kind regards

Ciao Beverly,
a pleasant step back in the time, with this photo where it seems to be in the'900. delicate colors, believe that such a blue sky can hardly be seen in the Lancashire.
good job

Hello Bev,
This is a well framed village scene. Good details and sharpness on stone walls and roofs. I can see dandelions on the lawn. Interesting to know the definition of 'listed' - a good way of preserving historical integrity.

Hello Bev,
There is indeed historical charm in this shot of Trawden. The material and design of these buildings convey the idea that they were built for permanence. Your note informs the photograph, a veritable postcard, effectively. The colors and textures of the stone are palpable in the image.
Warm regards,

Hello Beverley,
this is a very good composition, and a really interesting cottage. The day and time of the day for taking this photo was chosen perfectly well, I think.
I like the old cottage shining in the sun :) and the colours, of course!
I don't know if I will ever go to England, but so far I accumulate the info which I see on the pages of TE :)
By the way, in Russia there are such old "traditional" houses, too. They are "listed" and cannot be altered without special permission which is very difficult to get from the local authorities and the government.
Have a nice Sunday!
Best regards,
Elena
PS. what a mess with the new version of TE now! :(( Fortunately, we still have the old version.

Hello Beverley,
Again a most picturesque rural scene, where the aging stone houses stands so well in the middle of all greenery!
Interesting architectural details, and the white window frames add a good feeling...
I can almost hear the bumblebees and smell the freshly mowed grass..!

Hi Bev.
I'm back on your side of the globe again!
Just read your new intro (bit late in doing so!).
Glad to see you have left the chalk-face; I have vowed never to darken the door of a classroom ever again. You've made a similar journey from Lumix through the Nikons as I have via Pentaxes.
Anyway, back to the picture, which was taken over a month ago (long gap for you!).
Superb detail and sharpness, and terrific exposure. Good angle of view, too. I have seen many examples of the modernisation that goes on inside these old cottages and it always amazes me. Once again, I have to express how envious I am of your village.
Regards,
Andrew
