Photographer’s Note
I must say that as time goes by and as time draws closer to my being a TE member for one year already, for some strange reasons it has become more and more difficult for me to choose which photo should be my next post. I don't know why. Maybe I have become even more critical towards my work.
Anyway...
Timber houses on the hill Stigberg in Sцdermalm.
This is a very famous historical place in Sцdermalm, and you can see some other photos of it posted on TE (rather few in amount, though...).
I offer a different look on it, from a different POV.
I think the main reason of taking this shot was the lighting conditions. It was already evening (maybe some time after 8 PM). I can't say the exact time when I look at the exif data because when we approached this place something happened to the clock in my camera, and it showed 01.01.2000, 00:00 :)) I noticed it only a few hours later!
Maybe there is a "time hole" in this area?
and when you step into it you enter a different world and lose the sense of time?
In a way it is so, really, when you see these old houses, one by one, and imagine the atmosphere of the older times... and finally get lost in the very heart of the big city.
If you want to see what is farther you can have a look at this photo and at this photo :)
If you want to read the detailed information, please go here.

Hi Elena,
This has certain feeling of entering some cosy hideout place. It just emerges to vision on top of stairs and surrounded by fresh foliage. Old red wooden houses always look charming.

Hi Elena,
A very fine composition. You have chosen a very good POV to get the railings to be continued in the roofs at exactly the right angles, like they were integrated in the house! The small patches of sunshine are also very fine in the picture!
Kind regards

hi Elena
Fear not and panic not.
Selection of photos to post is a test of skill in photography itself. The task becomes more difficult as your level picks up. It is a sign that you have began to be very critical of your own work. I stated it to you earlier, I faced the same fate up to days.
I am not sure why you shoot this one. But I know I love wooden houses that are built to unique styles and designs. Especially I love to see how some Japanese retired people put up so beautiful wooden homes in the countryside [not sure if Japan has any countryside at all, they lack land!].
Perhaps another reason must be the location, most wooden houses of any worthy notice would happen to be surrounded with greenery and nice landscape scene.
Here you have trees every direction.
Honestly speaking this house is not very striking but enough to be interesting. And you have presented it in the best way of composition that I can think of, with the rails in diagonal at each side.
Nice work.

Hello Elena,
The light, yes, but also the parallel lines and angles, the fine lamp, the branches framing the building - they are all good reasons for taking this picture. I must look up this place on one of my next exercise walks on Sцdermalm. I am always looking for steep hills!

Gert

Hello Elena,
An interesting and creative POV and composition! The diagonal lines of the railings parallel to those of the roofs give a geometrical impression and emphasize the perspective. However, for me the beautiful summer evening light, the green foliage surrounding the houses on all sides and the lovely atmosphere are the most attractive things in this shot. You have controlled the light excellently and the colours are natural and nicely saturated. Well done!
Thanks a lot for linking to my photo of the same houses. :-)
Warm regards,
Lasse

Hello, Elena,
Fine low pov!

Hi Elena,
Excellent composition. I love the way you make use of the fence of the stairs. You really feel for walking up the stairs and have closer look at the red wooden houses. Beutiful evening lighting and nice colours. TFS and have a nice evening!
Cheers,

dear Elena,
always the photos are the gates to different times,
and this little wooden bridge looks the bridge to another time as you felt.
the images of the bridge often show us something suggestive and symbolic in our deep minds.
an old wooden bridge under the tunnel of trees, in the shade of those, and the brown house beyond it in the evening time, from very low POV, in my feeling those show me a wish to calm and peaceful states or times from noisy and busy world from what we cannot escape.
anyway each photo has the will to be posted on TE, I only hear their little voices, and I pick up only one of the day.
thank you,
Akihisa

Hello Elena,
I think, as you scrutinise and critique others' shots, you become subconsciously critcal, in the nicest possible way, of what you produce. It is all development.
I love your pov which guides us safely into the shot, where the evening sun is welcoming on the dappled woodwork and tree.
The dof is excellent.
The crispness and the composition has made this into an interesting shot.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

A very good pov Elena,
I like how the house is seen through this kind of bridge, with the lamp at the right and all those trees to frame it. And green/red is a good combination of colours. It's a neat and clean composition that shows just the essential.
Have a nice day,
Donato

Hi Elena,
although this house is really cozy and beautifully captured it is your note that makes this composition so very fascinating! Your personal approach to Sweden and especially to the beautiful places of Stockholm really shows that you have been touched by these places. TFS!

Elena,
Your composition is using the stairs to lead the eye into the shot. The lighting and colors are fine with excellent sharpness and detail.

Hello Elena.
I know this is not the photo you used to mark your first year on TE (congratulations!), but I really like it. It's the way the stairway leads the eye up to the lovely red house, which is set slightly off-centre. The trees frame it very nicely and the stairs' handrails create a strong sense of perspective. As Bill says, the photo makes something interesting and alluring out of a more or less prosaic subject. Well done.

Andrew

Elena
At the time this picture has been taken the shade overwelms throughout before the cottage. Despite to be a low one near the roof the tiny window supposely leads to the attic. This timber house despite the height are too large. As I read it is a clump of them matching with the environment preservation. I am tired to see so many buildings advancing in the fields engulfing nature. Warm regards. Tomi
