Photographer’s Note

It has been over a year since I last posted in TE, indeed it has been more than 18 months since I last picked up a camera. Reasons are various, loss of interest, but mainly my two Field Spaniel dogs were both very ill and both have sadly died. They came everywhere with me and I miss them dearly. Then an old enemy of mine, arthritis, made a painful revisit. But now the arthritis is not too bad and I have a new dog, a Cocker Spaniel girlie named Mali (Welsh for Molly) and this image was her first trip to one of the Field Spaniels favourite beaches.

The location is known locally as the Ogmore Deeps, a limestone outcrop the gets higher as the layers get further west affording fishermen access to deep water at all states of the tide. The Bristol Channel has a tidal range of over 10 metres on spring tides.

It was also my first outing with the Nikon D300 and I must say I am very impressed, the auto focus with it's numerous focusing points is ideal when going for a hyperfocal point and using filters. The hyperfocal point being a pebble about to be covered by the wave. Matrix metering gave perfect speed in aperture priority even though there was a CP and ND grad attached to the lens.
