Photographer’s Note
Driving along the Princes Hwy from Melbourne to the South Western city of Warrnambool is a 3 hours journey depending on how you do it. But it took me almost 6 hours, stopping a various locations for snapshots among other things. This was taken at Terang, a small and sleepy nodal town along the Highway with a population of 2,500. This historic cathedral building is Thomson Memorial Presbyterian Church, located at the western end of High St. It is named after John Thomson who squatted on Lake Keilambete (6 km north-west of Terang) in 1840. He is said to have built the first brick house in the district, was appointed a magistrate in 1840 and was also a founder of the first church in Terang, erected by the Bible Christian denomination in 1863.
The Thomson Memorial Presbyterian Church was erected at his instigation in 1893-94 on the site of an earlier Presbyterian church. Unfortunately Thomson was killed in a driving accident before work started but his wife ensured its completion and dedication. A Gothic Revival design in sandstone, it is one of the largest country town churches in Victoria and is loosely modeled on Scots Church in Collins St, Melbourne. The wagon-headed roof structure and stained-glass windows are of note.

Hello Alfred,
Very interesting architecture. Of course you had to stop the journey to see this cathedral.
The colours of the façade and tower are really beautiful and I also like that sky that varies from light
to very dark blue.
Best regards, Paul

It is amazing to see how we can find this type of amazing buildings in small towns around Australia.
I like your shot, for its simplicity but yet high technical quality. Well done.

Hi Alfred,
A late afternoon capture going by those very long shadows in the foreground. The warm light gives the sandstone a very beautiful richness and texture and contrasts well against the filtered blue sky. Superb definition in this quality capture.
Thank you too for your excellent note.
Ten out of Ten from me, well done.

Hi Alfred, this vertical cut is stunning, it accentuates the hieght of the church's spire and the grandeur of the building itself. I love the sky - your use of the filters has worked well and the image is beautifully sharp and well-metered. Congratulations, Lisa.

Hi Alfred,
You met with a golden light on this church, the filter worked well with the contrasts and colors too. Framing is fine. The lens seems to do marvels... Marilyn is jealous... she wants a 50/500 now.... (she is ready to swap with the tripod handle, but i m not sure you ll agree...
Greetings

Hello Alfred, These type of churches look fantastic & sometimes a little out of place in these little country towns. Not only is this a very colourful image so is it's history. Beautiful shot with the golden tones contrasting well with the blue grad. sky. The tall spire looks great against the dark blue sky as though reaching, as you said, for the heavens.
Well done, my compliments
Regards
Santo
