The church of Saint Jean, built originally as a baptistery by the canons of Saint Servais, became, after having been for some time, church unr independent property of the Dutch Reformed Church on 1 January 1634 This result for taking maastricht the Spaniards in 1632 by the United Proninces troops, who were under the command of Prince Henry Fréderique. Freedom of religion, already recognized in the northern Netherlands, was also introduced in Maastricht and churches were assigned to Protestants. Since 1897 the church was used by the congregation for reform of Maastricht, a federation of community and the Reformed Calvinist Church of Maastricht, in this country better known as the "Congregation Make road together."
