Photographer’s Note

Orthodox church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (cerkiew Zwiastowania Najświętszej Marii Panny) in the town of Supraśl, near Białostok. This Orthodox church builted 1503-1511. In 1944, the retreating German army destroyed this church, along with all of its precious frescoes. The Communist government turned the monastery into an agricultural academy. After the collapse of the Communist government, the monastery was turned over to the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church, which immediately began the still ongoing conservation work and renovation of the monastery. The church rebuilted according to the design of architects Beata Bejtman-Kuźmienko and Jerzy Kuźmienko.

Hello Mikolaj,

Nice composition with a right use of the colors. The red of the church walls is well in contrast with the clean light blue sky and I like the recall done by the red suit of the man in foreground.

it wasn't that easy: you had very hi lights in the white part of the church, but it seems like you did it right: colors are nice all over the frame and you were good to put this figure in red in the lower part of frame to give a sense of proportions and a point of interest (church aside). Well done!

To jest cerkiew? Wyglada jak zamek. Groznie sie przedstawiaja te wieze boczne. Facet w czerwonej koszulce rozsiadl sie na trawie jakby wiedzial, ze bedziesz go potrzebowal do zdjecia. Ciekawa historia tej cerkwi w opisie.

Hi Mikolaj,

I'm not a religious person, but i like to see old churches in the way they were build and in what style on the architecture. Here it are the textures on the bricks and the symmetry that goes along with it. Build by people and people are visiting it....good to include that family inside while the man outside is just enjoying the sun ;-)

Hello Mikolaj,
The man in the red sweater is so perfectly placed that he almost steals the show. The green grass and the family walking towards the church also help to make this a picture that stands out in the crowd.

Never had seen such an interesting architecture in sacral buildings.

Hello Mikolaj,

I wrote this yesterday but the site went down so here it is today, instead!

What a interesting building!
It immediately takes on a human character as it appears to have a face!
The sharp focus has ensured the capturing of the fine details of shape and pattern.
The person in the f/ with his bright red shirt, is a real eye-catcher, whilst the people approaching the church give a sense of perspective and scale.
This is a 'cracker'!
