The Varanasi Ghats Photo

Photographer’s Note

Here is a shot from the water of at least two of the Varanasi "ghats" or stairs really. Each one of these particular set of stairs has a name, and it is from one such as this, that the many people descend into the water, for spiritual cleansing. There are many, many such ghats that line the Ganges river here in Varanasi, and life along the ghats is always busy, and full of surprises. Certainly a boat ride with one of the oarsmen, is well worth the small fee, and really gives you the feeling of the place.

Light is wonderful giving so much warm tones all around. The red of the boat is very welcome tin this very well known environment. Great shot.

I see often this kind of stairs but thanks to the note I realize that's not always the same ones ^^
bright light well managed,
the yellow tones of these buildings are delightful
and the red add some good contrast to the composition

Nice light Steve, I would have just cropped out the two bits of boats at either side of the image and just klet us focus ont he red boat and the munshi ghat
