Photographer’s Note
Lungta style prayer flags at a local monastry.
It is is a colorful panel or rectangular cloth often found strung along mountain ridges, peaks monastries high in the Himalayan belt to bless the surrounding countryside or for other purposes.
Unknown in other branches of Buddhism, prayer flags are believed to have originated with Bön (which is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the departed spirits of one's ancestors) which pre-dated Buddhism in Tibet.
There are specific prayers printed on each flags..the wind off the flags considered holy have an effect on animate and inamnimate things.
Blue (symbolizing sky / space)
White (air/wind)
Red (fire)
Green (water)
Yellow (earth)
Cheers.

hi Sayeed,
this is really great, just the right balance of abstraction and realism, I like that a lot. the transparent flags create a feeling of weightlessness, of being able to walk on thin air :) funny how such a simple shot can be so evocative.
best,
Kristine
p.s. last spring Kristaps posted this somewhat similar photo, albeit from the US :)

Interesting tradition of the flags of prayer,
the world is full of ways of asking God for blessings.
I like the contrasts of color and the exact framing,
a simple composition with great sense.
Un saludo amigo Sayeed.

Hi Sayeed, I really dig the RGB's here and also the way you used the thirds rule to bring some order in the colourful array of flags. Ofcourse the outdoor type clinches the deal ;-)And guess I agree wirh Kristine 'bout the weightlessness. Very good work!
Thanx for the interesting information too - I wasn't awaree of the meaning of the colours.
Have a fine weekend,
Bert

hi Sayeed
I like it.
Very abstract in true form. Making an image out of part of the colorful mix as if out of context but in this case, it works very nicely to show the sheets of each colored flag combined to make up a nice graphic pattern.
Nice work.

Ciao Sayeed,
immagine curiosa ma di forte impatto visivo per via dell'elevato contrasto cromatico tra i vari colori.
Eccellente la luce e lo sharp!

Hi Sayeed!
Thanks to clio that has re-discovered this picture from last april, this one finds one more fan! The title makes me smile, and the colors that pop up to the eyes, enchant me! That's an excellent idea to show the flags in an abstract compo, and to let the imagination fly high with the blessings. Congratulations.
