Photographer’s Note
Let's take a brief pause on the Cinque Terre and let’s go back to Sardinia for a moment.
I spent last weekend in Carloforte on the Island of San Pietro, in the South West coast of Sardinia. Carloforte has two things in common with the villages of the Cinque Terre: it is a fishing village too and its inhabitants are of Ligurian origin.
The island of San Pietro was abandoned and remained deserted until 1738 when arrived there fishermen from Pegli (Genova) who previously had founded a colony on the island of Tabarka in Tunisia, the property of the lords of Pegli, who exploited the rich banks of coral.
The Tunisians who did not like their presence on the island anymore had intensified the raids and furthermore it seems that the banks of coral were exhausted. So Carlo Emanuele III of Savoia, king of Sardinia, granted them the island of San Pietro where they founded the city of Carloforte in honour of King.
The "tabarkini" continued to do their job of fishermen and even today the population for the most part are employed in sea-related occupations. They speak a dialect of Ligurian origin, but perhaps their first stay in Tabarka and then in Sardinia must have changed it a lot because my friends from Genova stated that they did not understand it.
ITALIANO

Ciao Donato,
original colour gamma... golden-sepia. How did you reach this effect?
The left side of the photo looks a little blurred and the distant objects look quite sharp. I can't understand whether I would prefer all of them sharp, but definitely this adds a touch of dynamism to this scene. Very nice photo - a capture of tranquility and stillness.
Kind regards,
Elena

Ciao Donato,
Beautiful golden tonalities in this attractive night photo, which has a tranquil and pleasant atmosphere. A good composition, where the boat in the foreground is the eye-catcher, the lamps and their golden reflections being the others. I was wondering about the blur too, but read your reply to Elena. Thanks for the interesting note and the map reference as well. ;-)

Ciao Donato.

Buona giornata,LUCIANO

Hi Donato,
Welcome in the land of the long exposures ;-)
I presume the movement of the water is causing a slight blur on the boat, i have no problems with that, even a bigger blur i could appreciate. The golden light looks great, just as your composition although the dark part on the right could be perhaps cropped out, and maybe some blue hour colour in the sky?
But in general i like the image, 15 sec is not easy, but you did very well here...

Henk

Ciao Donato

Hello Donato,
The fine evening atmosphere is well recorded!
I like the well balanced composition with the boat as a natural eye-catcher...
Interesting colour palette because of this special artificial light, where the small green light in the back stands out!

Good night view, you manage to find a clear point of view right in front of the little fishing boat. Very nice effect on the water of the harbor.
All the best,

hi Donato,
I like a lot this moody photo, golden and black - the combination is always very elegant. I particularly like the texture of the water in the lamp light, it looks like liquid gold. others have already noted that you might try and sharpen the photo a little, but that's a minor point here, I like the photo as is.
best,
Kristine

Hi Ingenua,
a good choice for using this yellow toning for this night composition. It makes me feel like wandering on the pier, looking at the boats and smelling the salted air of the sea.
Well done,

Ciao Donato,
This is an enviable scene with yellow bulbs in the darkness of night. I liked splendid effect of long exposure while yellow bulbs are reflecting on water surface and also boat. Reflections of front boat is just wonderful. Bellissimo, congratulations.

Ciao Donato, I looked at the photo & read your well written note with great interest, I see some parallel between your note & myself. With my mother & her sister (my aunt) we speak a dialect (Veneto) that has not changed for nearly 60 years but on my recent trip to Treviso I found that there were many words that I still use that have now been lost by the younger generation. I could not help but wonder which one changed the most the modern or the one spoken by the Tabarkini. Back to the photo, I like the light, reflection & the golden tone, well exposed & good detail, even on the moving boat.
Thank you

Ciao Donato,
ottimo lavoro e buon week end

Ciao
Ales
