Photographer’s Note

Les dunes de l’Erg Chebbi se trouvent dans le sud marocain, à 50 km d’Erfoud et autant de la frontière algérienne. L’Erg Chebbi est avec Chigaga le seul erg saharien au Maroc, immense (environ 22 kms du nord au sud et 5 kilomètres d’ouest en est), et parcouru de très hautes dunes, en moyenne 150 mètres de hauteur.

Erg Chebbi dunes are located in the south of Morocco, 50kms away from Erfoud and approx the same from the algerian border. The erg is 22 km long (North-South) and 5 km wide. Its dunes reach a maximum height of 150 meters.

Hello Patrick,

I do like your composition with the footsteps and the shadow at one side of the dune. A pity that he did not walk on the sun side, so there would be nice shadows in the footsteps in the sand. Then again, I've walked on the dunes in Sudan and I know why you do not walk on the sunny side of the dune ;-).

Bonjour Patrick

Merveilleuse image.
Un jeu d'ombre et de lumière extraordinaire, et une qualité vraiment excellente. Le piqué est incroyable, révélant le moindre grain de sable.
La composition est bien pensée, avec les traces de pas qui nous conduisent directement sur le nomade, et un très judicieux format vertical.
Les couleurs sont évidemment superbes, et traduisent la chaleur du désert.

Tu vas dire que j'ai toujours quelque chose à dire (lol) mais je me demande s'il n'aurait pas été intéressant de couper cet horizon un peu fade pour accentuer l'étendue de sable et renforcer la sensation d'infini. J'ai essayé, et je trouve que l'homme et sa djellaba bleue ressortent encore mieux.

Quoiqu'il en soit, une photo aussi superbe que dépaysante.

Hello Patrick,

Comme tu t en doutes, j aime beaucoup. D abord le cadrage en profondeur grace a la vue verticale, ensuite avec le petit bout de ciel augmentant l effet. Ensuite avec l inclusion du 'touareg' sur la ligne de partage, en habit local et en petit, donnant les dimensions du lieu.

Hi Patrick,

A great place to be, on every sand dune lies a new composition, i had a great time there and it seems you also. The people around there make the compositions even more interesting and very nice to bring contrast with their blue clothings.
I like your vertical composition, it absolute works. Karine her ws adds another interesting view, although i can also apprecitae your soft blue sky....very nice work.

It's those foodprints and the shadow on the sand dune that make the shot for me, even more so then that pefectly positioned person in this mega sandbox.
Such a harch enviroment to take your camera. That sand just gets everywhere!

on est petit dans le désert ! c'est l'impression que donne ce touareg qui poursuit sa marche sur la crête de cette dune.
Belle dualité ombre/lumière de part et d'autre de celle-ci.

A gorgeous one, with the light and shadow, and the line that the divides them! The lone figure really makes the whole thing work great. The vertical framing was a good idea. The colors of the sand, the texture, and the clarity are wonderful. Nice work,

Patrick, this is a brilliant shot. Sunshine and Shade are covered in most skillful manner. The sand peak which is running diagonally from bottom right to top left gives and extended view of the picture and lovely path..

J'aurais juré que c'était l'erg Chebbi même sans lire ta note. Je l'ai tellement photographié !
Ce cadrage en verticale est bien vu, il donne une autre perspective à la dune dont l'arête est magnifiquement dessinée.

Dear Patrick,

This is a wonderful image. Love the "S" shape leading your eye to the figure in the distance. Very nicely composed. Compared to another image of yours with the sun highlighting both sides of the dune, this is the stronger because of the dramatic lighting. Your entire portfolio is stunning!

J'ai découvert ta galerie ces derniers jours et ça a été un vrai bonheur de la parcourir. J'ai senti comme une petite faiblesse de ta part pour l'Inde ! ;-)
C'est très probablement en allant dans des pays comme celui-là qu'on découvre une envie de photographier la population locale. Ce que je note dans tes photos est que ce sont toujours des photos de très belle qualité, très colorées et extrêmement bien cadrées à l'image de celle-ci que je n'ai pas choisi innocemment. J'aime bien les traces de pas qui me rappellent une crise de rire que j'ai eu il y a quelques jours grâce à toi.
