Photographer’s Note

Taken near a campground at Sonora, California in the early morning. On tripod, no filters (wish I brought my polarizer.) The waterfall is only about 5 feet.

This kind of shot is certainly seen before, but here the long exposure (3sec! how did you compensate for that?) works exceptionally well! Perhaps because the waterfall is so small that the details in the plants provides a very stark contrast to the moving water?

Le couple vitesse diaphragme est conforme en fonction de la luminosité ; c'est pour cela qu'il n'y a aucune suxexposition.
Puisque la photo a été prise tôt le matin son exposition est équivalente aproximativement à 1/30 s pour f/1.8. Très belle photo.

The couple speed diaphragm is in conformity according to the luminosity; it is for that there is no suxexposition. Since the photo was early taken in the morning its exposure is equivalent aproximativement to 1/30 S for f/1.8 . Very nice picture.

'3s, no filter?' I thought, then I saw f22... No wonder. I look forward seeing pure digital cameras approach this versatility (and I will continue to dream of Canon D-series in the mean time).

Shots like this have been taken many times, but here you've managed to create something new and exciting. What I like most are the green patches with the water running between them. This is simply wonderful...job well done!

The angle you chose really makes the waterfall look like it is very tall. I like the effect of the 3 sec exposure time, giving the flow a smooth effect. The colours are good too. Well done, Linda.

Very nice Linda...Very, very nice. I agree with you on the polarizer. The only improvement that I would make would be to go into photoshop and add in a little blue and green to the shadows and midrange. That would help to remove the slight blue cast. Then crank the saturation until it starts to clip. Then add a little bit of sharpening and you are set. I've got a sample I can post as a workshop but not for a couple of days. I really like this image. You caught the water just perfect. It reminds me a lot of an image that a friend of mine took in Oregon (my all time favorite image). Nice shot.
