Photographer’s Note
‘Hydra – In Hydra Port’
Fisherman checking the nets in the port of Hydra.
After my experiment with partial desaturation of a picture of a streetscene in Prague, I did the same with this port scene in Hydra.
This time I decided to keep and emphasise the yellow colours, the very vivid yellow of the fishnets and of the springflowers on the hills behind the port.
For the picture in colours see workshop.

Ciao Paul,
molto originale e ben riuscita questa saturazione parziale, lasciando a colori soltanto la rete da pesca e parte della vegetazione della collina.
Well done!

Your technique produces a very special effect. I'm not a fan of it, but I think you've done it very well.

Hi Paul,
Wonderful contrast between the vibrant yellow nets and the black and white village.
Beautiful bits of color to the hillside vegetation.
Very imaginative image.

A good choice of the yellow colors of the net in the Fg for this capture of the fishing activity here. Very nice pp work effect on this scenery of the port.

Dag Paul,
Ik keek naar uw tweede foto, en de kleur vind ik de beste.
Nochtans is uw eerste foto zeer mooi bewerkt.
Het Z/W past goed doordat u weinig kleur er tussen door heeft verwerkt.
Samenstelling en presentatier zij zeker mooi. Bedankt.
Groeten,
John.

Ciao dear Paul,
interesting and pleasant experiment of desaturation, also because you have privileged the yellow that is an energetic color. I very also appreciate the WS with the original colors. Excellent idea, compliments!
Ciao, have a nice night!

Hola Paul.
The partial desaturation worked very well in your shot, it creates a good effect but in my humble opinion I prefer your WS in color.
Very good PP work.
Best regards.

Olá Paul, interesting work of partial desaturation. Love this yellow river passing in FG and the fisherman working on the nets. It surprised me to see that the yellow is also quite relevant in the original. The desaturation didn't change so much as usually changes but I like the point you made here.

Great definition and depth. Well done !

Paul,
I'm not really sure that this experimentation really provides any benefit to this image. It look interesting somewhat, but it lost the essence of the place, and it's very distracting. I don't find that it has any artistic vallue to it. The original photo is so much better, so two point for the original.

This is a different experiment but in my personal opinion, the original one in the WS"is much much better John. The compostion is also quite nice fith the fishnets at the foreground and houses at the back. Well done! Tolga

Hello Paul,
very nice this shot from Hydra's island with the nets to be spread on the port for fixing and drying.I like the yellow of the nets,as the plantation on the hill, with the entire shot in B/W.
Have a nice evening,Danos

Hi Paul,
your visit to Greece must be very interesting. The sky and the landscape of Greece is dramatic. The rich yellow nets is very impressive and exciting.
How the yellow harmonises with the trees ande flowers in the background.
Exciting presentation with simple life depiction.

High - interesting experiment. Yellow color is considered to be alarming and not-so0obvious one, but here it's surely making everything very alive. Good photo!

Excellent composition of daily life in the harbor. Great job.

Hello Paul
You have partially desaturated the image and it is what I thought already when looking from the thumbnails...together with the yellow nets/the blossoming trees, it is working well! The fisherman fixing his nets is a good addition to the image...
Cheers

Hello Paul
I do like the treatment of partial desaturation. The yellow of the net was getting somewhat lost in the original. Like also the patches of green on the slopes in the BG. A nice scene, made even better by your work. Well done!

Hi Paul!!
A clever and creative work!!
This play of tones fits really well to the capture and enhances its value, looking as a capture with no time, as a nice hommage to fisherman´s and it sfabulous wortk!!!
Very nice and very well done...

It is a good idea desaturated all colours excepting the yellow of he nets, but I think you didn't have to forget all the yellow plants all around.
By the way, picture looks also nice without Post production.
Best regards Paul.

Hi Paul
The partial desaturation is effective with the yellow selected. You have done a very good job at performing this technique. Tfs, Marlene
