Photographer’s Note
This is the little village of Balmerino which lies on the north Fife coast on the south side of the estuary of the River Tay. It is famous for the nearby Balmerino Abbey of which you can read more details on the "Undiscovered Scotland" website here.
Unfortunately, it would appear that much of the stone used for the building of the village and its local church was obtained from the ruins of the abbey which, since 1937, has been under the care of the National Trust for Scotland.
Shot in RAW using a circular polariser and converted and edited in PSE6.

John,
This is a well composed shot using the road to lead the eye through the shot. The warm lighting brings out nice color throughout the shot. The photo has nice sharpness and shows excellent detail. The architecture in fine and you have presented it well. The deep blue sky provides a nice backdrop for the shot.

Hi John,
A too long time since you posted a picture here... I really admire your ability to find these motives, such beautiful houses! Your composition is excellent and all colours are very saturated. I like the way you have found the moment when the sunlight falls exactly parallel to the white gable, and all surface irregularities are visible along the shadows.
Kind regards
Gunnar

Hi John,
This looks like such a picturesque village. I like the way the path snakes from house to house, and I also like that each one of the houses has different architectural detailing. Nice colours and good use of natural light.
Thanks for sharing!

Hello John,
A fine picture and your usual lovely, but not over-saturated colours.
The strong leads into the image from both bottom corners, and the way that the lane beckons the eye on and out of sight in the left middle ground, lay down the basis for a very pleasing composition.
The CP filter has produced a great sky – it would be interesting to see another shot from the same position, when the leaves have come out on the trees.
Were it not for the modern lamppost, and the lavish application of masonry paint to the stone cottages to the right, this might have been taken any time in the last fifty or more years.
It never ceases to amaze me that people love to paint over old natural stone houses, and make a burden and great expense for themselves in having to redo the process every so few years afterwards!
Glad to see you back after some while. I've not been very active either recently, but I do keep track of things on TE and TL.
I'd be interested to hear about you new DIY computer – I looked at getting a local chap to build me one, but his prices couldn’t compete with my bespeaking one from Dell, so I'm afraid I succumbed to big business.
Kind regards,
Peter.

Of all the houses in your photograph I think I'd like to live in the little cottage to the left...
I've been through Balmerino..it is indeed a beautiful place.
Gorgeous photograph, John. Well done.

Hi John.
Don't know how I missed this one, as I check your gallery quite often.
It's a superb Scottish village scene, with a good viewpoint and lovely colours. To me, the eye keeps landing on the yellow house as the focal point, nicely placed to right of centre. The CPL has given this a great sky and rich colours without appearing over-saturated. The sharpness is just right. Balmerino sounds like an Italian name! Anyway, this is an exquisite shot of this lovely village in beautiful Spring weather.
Regards,
Andrew
