Blooming on the Path Photo

Photographer’s Note

On a wonderful day when a gust of wind blows occasionally under the clear blue sky after a spring storm, a lot of flakes of cherry blossoms made pink carpets on the path of the park, and they fell fluttering in the gust.
Whenever the gust blew i pushed the shutter button of the camera with 12mm lens put on the ground. i tried various shutter speeds of from 1/50 to 1/1000 since the strength of a wind changed quite often. i managed to get this image in motion blur which many petals were flying whirlingly at the moment which there was nobody miraculously in a 122-degree angle of view.

Taken at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, which is an oasis of 58.3 hectares in area in central Tokyo. Its overlook can be seen in WS.

Great point of view. You used a lens that I love and often I use. The falling flakes give a touch of movement and the carpet they made is really amazing. I do not know if it could have been better focused with different aperture and focusing around one meter, probably not. But is also good in that way.

love the photo, so sensual and light, like flowing silk.y the low point of view and wide angle work really well to add unusual twist to what otherwise would be a fairly mundane shot, my compliments to your creativity :) the out of focus areas around the edges add to the power of the image, the resulting tunnel effect simply draws the eye in. excellent work, I like it a lot.

Nice one, I like the wide angle effect and the blur at top and bottom that combined with the falling petals provide dynamism and motion feeling, could have worked also well in vertical format.

Hi Hisashi. Wow, this is one of the best sakura shots that I have ever seen. Very smart idea to put the camera with the wide lens on the ground, and then benefit from the motion blur assisted by the wind. I added this photo to my favorites.

Hi Hisashi,
I appreciate your technical experiments, but the result at my eyes is a a mixed bag.
The time of exposure is perfect to "partially freeze" the movement of flakes, but the aperture (or the lens characteristics, I do not know) creates a bit annoying blurring effect on the picture borders.
Personally I would try an event closer aperture (at higher ISO) or a crop of the center (and less blurred) zone of the frame.
Anyway a far from simple or trivial shot. Congratulations, Dario.

Hello Hisashi,
This could be a common photo, however you managed to convert it into a fantasy full of action. Excellent perspective by the extremely low angle allowing you for unussually deep picture. I would even say, that the unsharp foreground is better than a sharpe one - this leaves space for phantasy. And the motion blurred leafs are the consequence after an action, which you can just dream of. Wonderful picture. Thanks for sharing. Kind regards, Michael
