Photographer’s Note
A Gaddi shepherd in his festive cap - typical of the region. This was shot on the Dusserah festival day at Kulu. The Gaddis take their herd of goats high up in the mountains (Himalayas) during summer in search of rich fodder and get back to lower heights during winter when the higher reaches become snow-bound. Known to be a very hardy tribe - the deep lines on this face must have seen many unpredictable quirks of nature in the mountains.
