Photographer’s Note

After a year away, I have returned to Korea. This is a place that makes me extremely happy. With a new job came the same introductions to Korean culture and a trip to a folk village.

Normally I would be running far away from these sort of tours, after spending so much time in Korea and visiting so many other folk villages around the country. This time was a lot better as I was with a group of new teachers who have never been to Korea before and it was like seeing the history again through a fresh pair of eyes.

The performance is called nong-ang nori, which is larger than the more common sa-bul-nori. The instrument that the man is about to catch is called a so-go and it is one of the numerous tradition Korean percussion instruments.

Hi Jason,

Nice work capturing this festival.
Good expression. Sharp and colorful.
The guy looking is up is perfectly placed.
I agree about running from things like this in Korea but good work for sticking it out haha Have a good one.

long time no see. looks like you can't stay away from the place. i like the dof and the composition of the photo here. the costumes are clear and well-detailed. i hope to learn a lot more from you now that you're back. well done (on the photo)!

Hello Jason,

I like everything about this picture: colors, sharpness, action... Now I am seriously considering to revisit one of the folk villages and try to make that kind of shots. Great job!
