Photographer’s Note

ENGLISH: In the last few days, I have posted photos of St Mary's Cathedral in Sydney. It is one of our largest cathedrals and of course one of the oldest. This photo is of a side door to the Cathedral. It shows in detail the Gothic architecture of which I am so fond.

I have included in my Workshop 2 other aspects of the Gothic facade

ITALIANO: In questi ultimi giorni, ho inviato le foto di St Mary's Cathedral di Sydney. E 'uno dei nostri più grandi cattedrali e, naturalmente, uno dei più antichi. Questa foto è di un lato porta alla Cattedrale. Essa mostra in dettaglio l'architettura gotica di cui sono così affezionato.

Hi Neighbour, Interesting idea, shooting architectural detail of the building and leaving the overall form and scale to the viewers imagination. The image works although the slight lack of symetry is a little troubling (three columns on the RHS and 2 1/2 on the left) there is also (I think) a slight tilt or perhaps that's lens distortion? cheers, Steve

Very nice architecture detail of the church entrance door that has darker tone for this contrast to the framed arches. I detect a little visual of the vertical line slightly tilted but otherwise a great shot of sharpness and good color detail.

Hello Lisa,

The smooth light helped to put in evidence the textures of the wood and stones.
Interesting front point of view showing well the symetry.
I think this photo could also provide a good result in B&W. Did you try?

Another symmetrical composition in your portfolio, i like how you emphasize the intricate design patterns of the architecture by framing it tight. Nice shot Lisa, very nice one.

Hello Lisa,
It is rather tightly framed particularly on the left, nevertheless it is a fine capture of this beautiful doorway with its impressive Gothic carvings. Clarity is excellent to bring out the least detail of the fine workmanship to great effect. Beautiful warm tones.

Hi Lisa,
Relatively new age shows also on this one well, especially as exposure is lighter than on the wider view. Excellent details showing good craftmanship. Symmetric view is an obvious choice for this.

Hi Lisa,

How was your weekend? Mine was pretty relaxing (apart from the usual household chores, yuck)...
As Steve has already pointed out, there does seem to be a bit of a tilt but the sharpness is excellent (both probably due to the beer?). The metalwork on the door is beautiful - and that's just a SIDE door?
I like the WS, too, particularly the second one. Almost makes me dizzy... and I haven't had any beer today (yet!).

finalmente posso criticarti questa foto.
Purtroppo il lavoro porta via molto tempo a me e la sera ultimamente mi sto dedicando anche ad altre cose e spesso faccio tardi per pensare di fare qualche critica.

Mi piace molto il taglio che hai dato a questa foto.
Le geometrie visibili, sono davvero belle.
Anche la luce e lo sharp sono ben gestite.

Hi Lisa,

A wise Aussie once told me that the devil was in the details - this post contains several of 'em. Very beautiful and detailed, complex architecture. I share your fondness for Gothic design, you have really shown us some wonderful examples. The note and the workshops all combine to make the whole package. Great job!
