Photographer’s Note
English
During the recent bushfires in Victoria temperatures reached over 1000 degrees C, hot enough for some metals to melt.
The Eucalyptus trees looked like black skeletons, with their leaves all burnt, their trunks almost bare, black & looking like charcoal. It looked as though nothing could have survived the intense heat.
There were many human lives lost as well as animals, domestic & wildlife, dwelling, outbuildings, shops etc. & crops.
But as Mark (gundog68) correctly stated on a previous post of mine titled After Black Saturday “It is important to note that here in the Australian environment our vegetation is in fact adapted to fire; indeed encourages it; and following these extreme events is the regenesis of the unique Australian ecology”.
I have posted this one taken Easter Sunday where we can clearly see the new growth on a burnt out trunk, In the WS have posted one taken about a month ago, we can see the burnt out forest and what looks like snow but is in fact ash.
Italiano
This was taken on a trip to Kinglake accompanied by fellow TE member Alfred (alftrek)& his family.
Thank you Alfred for a lovely day.

Hi Santo, you rotten bugger, I took a very similar image at Wilsons Prom on the w/e which I was going to post but now I'm not sure. You did a good job here, contrasting the red/green of the new shoots with the burnt tree trunk. A good idea and well presented. cheers, Steve

Hi Santo,
Fresh leaves growing from a burned trunk. It's both inceredibly beautif and full of symbolism. Blurry background gives full attention to the main subject.

Caro Santo, wow, what a beautiful photo - not just for the technical side of it but the beautiful story of hope that it brings. I love the shallow DOF here and the contrast of colours against the blackened tree trunk. Excellent choice of subject and lovely composition. Un caro saluto, Lisa.

hi Santo
I have said it before and I will say it now - you make a good environmentalist. This is very good story about new life springing out of burnt core, showing how amazing the trunk can withstand and resist fire that destroys easily metal steel. The new shoot is very well taken care of in sharpness and color mix to give a touching hope. You have done a superb capture, compared to this poorer quality that I did on my trek to Indonesia border months ago.
When there is tissue, there is hope :) When I was a kid, I was asking myself why fish can grow out of a newly-dug pothole of water in the soil/mud. Of course I knew how tadpoles ended up there too :)
The great thing about this new life shot is that the trunk is charcoal black and it provides a splendid choice for you to frame it as border to contrast so strongly with the new life colors. Wonderful, isnt it?
Excellent work.

Hello Santo,
True to form, your timing is impeccable in this shot from "the fire" zone. This is one the local papers should pick up. It is a sign of life following this tragic event. Very fitting for an Easter Sunday shot. The new life contrasts well with the stark seemingly dead trunk. Very nicely done.
Thanks, John

Hi Santo,
You have done really well in isolating this new shoot in beautiful colors and vivid details. I like the inclusion of the trunk with shallow focus silencing the background pretty smoothly.
Wonderful work and TFS.

Hello Santo,
This is a beautiful picture, also carrying an amazing and hopeful message. Actually, whenever there has been a major forest fire in Sweden (never anything even half as bad as those in Australia this year) it is noted a year later that nature has been tremendously rejuvenated. Still, that's no solace to those who lost their property or even lives.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Santo,
Good close up to the burnt trunk, these colorful young leaves just look like made in plastic, good WS photo to show death clumps, all these naked branches still can create poetic flavour, hope the new life growing as fast as possible to refresh the environment, thanks for sharing.

Hello Santo,
Rotten bugger? I am not sure. It seems that you have spoiled Steve's plan.
I visited the lake at Colac and reminded me of your earlier post of this lake which was completely dry when I was there. I havent got the time to post any photo yet, but will post soon.
This photo shows how resilient these gum trees are, still sprouting after the horrific inferno. A stark contrast between the charcoal and green leaves, this I think is very well noticed. But the BG light seens a bit too strong at that time of the day.
Take care
ALfred

Hello Santos,
I understand that after the enormous devastation by the bunch fires in south Australia, it must be a wonderful feeling to discover this new and beautiful life.
You've captured it very well.
The leaves and the small branches have many different beautiful tones contrasting with each other and specially with the black trunk.
On the blurred background we see more different colours. So I guess there's lot of more new life.
Best regards, Paul

Una foto bella e con un effetto grafico notevole. Il contrasto tra il germolgio colorato e il nero della corteccia fa risaltare ancora di più le forme eleganti e i colori delle foglie. Ottimo taglio e inquadratura.
Have a nice weekend,

Impressing, the persistence of the life is remarkable, the life appears impossible to erase, it is comforting. The photograph is of a rare beauty. The plant is put forward by the blur and the black trunk. Congratulations.

Ciao caro Santo,
Paolo
