Photographer’s Note
A Dartmoor pony taking a drink in a water channel that runs over and down through the moor.
The ponies have ben recorded living on the wild and unhospitable moors of Dartmoor since the Middle Ages.
Indeed it could possibly have been even longer,as hoof-prints were found on Dartmoor during an archaeological excavation in the 1970's and showed that ponies were to be found here around 3500 years ago.
The ponies have the metabolism to prosper in the tough and uncompromising conditions they have to contend with.
There are many ponies living on Dartmoor, all sizes and colours, most of unknown breeding.
The true to type Dartmoor pony with known breedding is recognized by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust.
Ponies are also important for conservation grazing particularly on certain habitats such as wet permanent pasture.

At this time of year I begin to wish that I lived on a farm again. I miss the animals so much. There's a peacefulness about them which I feel in this picture. Very nicely taken. TFS

Hi Jean, your Dartmoor pony conjured up images in my mind of Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of The Baskerviles. I think it was in that story that a pony slipped to its death in the quagmire. Anyway, this is a beautiful photo, so English and such a rare thing to see a pony in the wild. It's nice and sharp and your colours are very natural and not over-processed. Great job & TFS, Lisa.
