Here we are in Dartmoor National Park,following a track which leads up onto the open moors.
This land has seen many changes over the years.

"At first sight it is easy to believe that Dartmoor is a totally natural landscape, but nothing could be further from the truth.The moor has been settled since pre-historic times, and the wealth of Bronze Age remains is unrivalled elsewhere in the country.
Iron Age occupation is evident too.

There has been plenty of industry, too;the moor has been mined for tin since medieval times.
Parts of the moor have been quarried for granite.

Dartmoor was given National Park status in 1951, and is managed by the Dartmoor National Park Authority.The authority has the task of balancing the conflicting demands made on Dartmoor;those of agriculture, tourism, conservation, and the controversial use of part of the moor as a training ground for the army."
